Well 75% of that key formula, is still the majority - so they are Guns N' Roses.

Velvet Revolver almost had Izzy, Slash, and Duff together. If it actually played out like that, would you have considered it GN'R?

Fuck yes, but only if they acquired an Axl-like replacement vocally (to replicate the sound), or used Izzy & Duff to share vocals.

I like your consistency. I just draw my line in the sand with "the drummer is replaceable but none of the other 4 are." 16

I don't believe they were dead creatively without Izzy, I think it's more that Izzy was the bridge between Axl and Slash's particular manarisms.

Rewind to Sympathy for the Devil era and you have Axl suffering from the emotional pressures of being lead singer in the most controversial band in the world for 5 years and Slash deep in 10 years of junk abuse.

"It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" has GNR worthy riffs and was ready to go circa 1995 but they couldn't agree on it. Catcher, TWAT and TIL, SOD and others on Chinese are also perfect for old GNR but they don't speak to each other.

Nothing wrong with the creative process. It's the relationships that are fucked up.
