It's tough to speculate.  Alcohol could very well have played a factor.  You don't think straight when you're drunk obviously, so you may THINK you can do things you really shouldn't attempt to do.

But I have heard that he was a reckless driver to begin with, so he easily could've wrecked at 130 mph sober as well.
