Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
Yeah that band was a one in a million (no pun intended) combination, apart they're all lacking. They were the perfect configuration in that what one guy was short the next guy had in spades.
It's what made guns n' roses. Each member was a specialist who was extremely adept at their own skill but needed the next guy to cover what they just couldn't bring to the table.
Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
Better be careful. Axl fans will crucify you for making bold statements like that. Axl didn't need any of them. CD proved that.
CD was VERY good. VR put out some good stuff. I enjoyed Slash's solo album. Was any of it on par with classic GNR? I don't think many people would make that claim. The fact is GNR burst onto the scene with a vengeance and it was apparent that the ride wasn't going to last long. So why harp on what could have been, when honestly we don't know how it would've been. They could've stayed together and worked together with zero inspiration and released subpar music. What good would that do? Just so we could sit back and know that they're still together.
GNR ain't getting back together, so I don't see the need to sit here and bitch about how bad things are with each and every one of them. Just try to enjoy what you do have, even if it doesn't live up to the impossible expectations people set.
Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
Said it before but I'll say it again....
Had GNR reunited at some point during the CD fiasco, easily could have replicated what the Stones did when they released Steel Wheels. Albums with some killer tracks spread out amongst filler that would have kept them relevant plus the huge tours that would have followed each album.
Could still do it but I doubt it would be as massive had it occurred years ago.
Slash 2010 is probably better than both Snakepit albums
I think that first Snakepit album is the best thing he did post GNR.

I'm not bitching about GnR, not GnR, or any incarnation of former gnR member projects, I'm bitching about the fans mostly and the crazy Axl fans specifically.
Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
The band's REAL FANBASE (not internet geeks) do not have multiple factions.
I just talked to an old friend yesterday and his wife, and BOTH OF THEM had no clue GN'R had even done anything post-Spaghetti Incident.
And they were fans
I know alot of people will come back with "well, they're not REAL fans" - bullshit.
These are the people who listen on the radio, buy records, and the bottom line is right or wrong, most people still see Guns as a dead band, which died in the mid-90's, probably around 1994 or so.
I still believe there are no factions. There's old band, and new band. And the old is seen as the REAL Guns N' Roses.
Most average people kept calling Gilby - "Izzy" - in The Garden video. That's how fucking clueless most casual record buyers and ticket holders are. Guns N' Roses = Axl & Slash. Aerosmith = Steven & Joe. Queen = Freddie & Brian. Stones = Mick & Keith. Beatles = John & Paul. Zeppelin = Robert & Jimmy, etc.
If Slash replaced DJ tomorrow, every major music publication would call it a Guns N' Roses reunion, and the 98.99998% mass public would accept it as such.
Only people on MyGNR, HTGTH, CD, Evo, and GN'Fn'R's would say otherwise.
And before any retorts happen, I wanna say this...
If a full blown, even just UYI-1991 reunion happens, and fanboys are running around calling for Robin Finck's and yes BUCKETHEAD's return to the band - they're a fucking moron, and were never a real fan of GN'R.
There I said it
Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
I agree, most people think of GNR as Axl and Slash. I think MOST people know Slash isn't in the band anymore by now, but couldn't tell you any of the other guitarists that have been in, or are in the band now. Buzz was talking about pro-Axl fans though, who only exist on these boards. So that's what I was responding to. The online community is divided in so many directions it's hard to keep track. Obviously the casual fan could care less about the ins and outs and don't realize GNR has been "active" over the last decade. I'm not about to argue that.

That's the fucking truth right there bro. The core of Guns N' Roses is and always will be Axl, Duff, Izzy, and Slash. Anything other than this combination is NOT Guns N' Roses. When Izzy left, it fucking died. End of story.

Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
Izzy was cool and all...but you can't tell me that when I saw Axl, Slash, Duff and Gilby in 1993 that I didn't see GNR. Slash playing that november rain solo with all of his feel...Axl's piercing vocals..Duff drunk as fuck hamering on his bass.....hey I love izzy and all but the UYI band at least was still GNR imo.
without getting into the whole "is modern GNR still GNR debate" i think the key parts of the old GNR sound are Axl and Slash - despite who writes what or whatever - what you notice on a track you listen to are Axl + Slash's unique sounds.
I love all 5 of the old band and they all brought something that's for sure....but just loosing izzy isn't the death of the entire thing to me.
