Re: Post your favourite fookin' GNR songs and tell us why!
Say what you want about Matt, but he was a fucking rock drummer. I miss those kind of guys today. GOD I miss them.
It's all drum machines, or Mike Portnoy jerk off sessions.
This one's for you Matt -
Madagas getting a tad harsh in his old age. Wouldn't consider anything from that Ritz show "average at best", but he's right.....That KOHD at the Marquee was killer on the radio. Radio pushed that version while MTV pushed the Ritz version during the UYI wait.
Both kick ass.
I gotta admit, I NEVER was a big fan of the overproduced KOHD on UYI II. The little speech in the middle pisses me off everytime.
KOHD was just a song that GN'R played live better than the studio version being as memorable.
And let me tell you Ritz '88 and Marquee '87 were GREAT, EPIC performances.
And although i've never been able to pick which is my favorite definitively, i've got to throw this one in as right up there for me.

I was a little sauced last night.:P Anyhow, yes, The Ritz version is above average-I do love the Freddie Mercury one as well-but I still ultimately like the Marquee version the best.
KOHD studio and Live and Let Die studio should have been left off the Illusions...neither are as good as the live performances. They should have just saved those studio cuts for the Spaghetti Incident or reserved them for soundtracks.

Oh...and my favorite performance from the Ritz show is easily WTTJ...HOLY HELL.

You Could Be Mine, the MOST "metal" song GNR has ever done, and it fucking rocked!!!!
Re: Post your favourite fookin' GNR songs and tell us why!
Being Olorin posted it, i'll go ahead and publicly state that You Could Be Mine is my #5 all-time GN'R song.
This is bottom line THE BEST rocker from the UYI albums. It's not a shock at all that it was released as the first single it's the strongest, AFD-like, punch your fuckin' teeth down your throat song they had in their back pocket (that's not to slight Civil War & Perfect Crime which were pretty bad ass rockers). The song just grabs you by the balls and never lets go. And another 'amazing' moment is how much the song has held up over the years, and is still a great rocker and one of the most requested GN'R songs on rock radio, classic or modern - doesn't matter, it's timeless.
You Could Be Mine will always hold a VERY special place in my heart, because it was the song that got me into Guns N' Roses, as was the YCBM video (which is the most bad ass video of the UYI era, and personally my favorite GN'R video of all time). It floods back so many great memories for me when I was first discovering Guns, and also cemented my undying love for the 1991 GN'R as the "true" GN'R.
To this day, as soon as this song comes on, I want to full 100 MPH, and belt it at the top of my lungs.

While you're breakin' down my back n'
I been rackin' out my brain
It don't matter how we make it
'Cause it always ends the same
You can push it for more mileage
But your flaps r' wearin' thin
And I could sleep on it 'til mornin'
But this nightmare never ends
Don't forget to call my lawyers
With ridiculous demands
An you can take the pity so far
But it's more than I can stand
'Cause this couchtrip's gettin' older
Tell me how long has it been
'Cause 5 years is forever
An you haven't grown up yet
Vintage Axl fucking Rose.

I just wish he had actually put the "with your ass in the air" bit into the studio version. Love hearing him sing it live. Seems like he hasn't done it much lately though.

Agreed 100%. This song and that video are what made me into a music fan. I liked music before but was very indifferent to everything. When I saw this video for the first time I was like "fuck do these guys look cool" I loved Axl's purple jacket back then and I still love it now. Though my desire to own and wear one of my own isn't the same Plus the song was f-ing badass. I knew of Guns N' Roses but had never paid much attention up to that point. This song along with the video turned my whole world upside down when it came to music in a very good way.

I hate that part live. Sounds so juvenille. Reaks of the lame rant in Get in the Ring with all the excessive, pointless cursing and bravado. I don't don't know "with your ass in the air" just sounds stupid to me.
