Re: Azoff-Axl Lawsuit Settled: Includes "comprehensive touring agreement"

I think Buzz makes some valid points, definitely. Axl Rose's name alone caused many promoters immediately to get the hershey squirts just to hear his name.

However I DO NOT think Axl Rose alone, especially with the brand name of GN'R, after a Gold album with no promo means that new GN'R is absolutely void of being profitable. Even with half-full arenas, they're turning a profit. At the very least they're a theater-band.

I think the problem lies within Axl's reputation. So much shit has went down, some true, some misunderstanding, some lies... that Axl carries baggage just on name. And alot of promoters, especially in the U.S. weigh the headache of Axl Rose compared to the profit margin... and honestly...

His lowest profitability in the world is in America. Just the way it is. So maybe that's it. The good doesn't outweigh the prospect of the bad.

I lean toward Buzz's view on this. Sometimes I think Axl would rather bury himself in lawsuits than be a productive musician. Lawsuits are expensive and stressful, but they still allow him to be a hermit in his mansion instead of dealing with the media and fans in the real world. Bury yourself in a lawsuit with the Ticketmaster head honcho and you've got a pretty good excuse to stay away from touring the United States.

You also have the potential to make more money off of a lawsuit sometimes than touring.

I hope they tour here as I'd like to see them as you never know if you'll get the chance again, but its crazy to say just because they toured here in 2006 somehow discredits the 2002 situation. It was almost identical. A bunch of cancellations and shows not even half full. Some venues had entire sections completely empty and moved the handful of people in the nosebleeds to the front so they could curtain off the dead zone.

They couldn't even sell out The Joint and that barely even holds over 1000 people. Hell, artists like diplo can sell that place out. Even extreme hardcore new GNR fans like Jim Bob that went to multiple shows on that tour talked about how empty those arenas were. Days before the Arco show was canceled, you could still buy front row tickets and that show had been on sale for months.

We've talked about this before, but the best chance for US success is playing clubs in big cities, maybe arenas in NY and LA. Only way an arena tour is a success is if they co headline with a major act or have some killer openers and Baz is not a killer opener.

Hey, has anyone considered that Axl is going to tour to pay off Azoff?
Instead of paying him out of his own funds, he tours GNR and hands his checks over.

The tour seems to have been front and centre with the settling of their dispute and I'm pretty sure Azoff would not have sued unless he knew he could win.

I keep thinking of some remark one of the band said about needing to tour to pay for more recording etc.

Just a thought.

Yeah, Axl has never been a fan of touring, and it's obvious they used te 2006-2007 tour as a cash grab. I wouldn't be surprised if Intercourse's theory would be right and the supposed profit of a new NA tour is part of the compensation.
We all know that money can never be enough, especially for those who are living Axl's lifestyle. I'm sure that he'll never want to risk his own wealth for something like a new album, and as the 'forthcoming' CD seems to be unfinished and the label seems to be have no will to fund it after the CD fiasco, Axl needs to earn a lot to pay the bills. If he has any ambition.

everyone's "theories" are so played out and predictable. I could almost post word for word your comments BEFORE you post them...blah blah blah.

The case is settled and that is a GOOD thing for the Gnr brand-whether it be Axl's orchestra or a potential reunion down the road. The brand needs Azoff and Live Nation in their corner.

haha! i couldn't agree more! you are 100% correct. it's really a shame what this board has turned into. i used to check it out alot because you could have honest discussions. and people would bring well-thought opinions.

now it's just a place to make up negative shit about axl and the band, and then discuss as if that shit is fact.

doesn't anyone in here get sick of posting the same shit over and over?

hopefully when things pick up for the band again, the vibe on this board will improve.
