I think the Kim interview was actually a few months old but had just surfaced recently. 

Anytime you get those guys in a room together, they start churning music out faster than any one of them would expect.

The Thayil/Cornell comments could be meant to intentionally confuse people. Band got a LOT of shit last year on the fan forums for not releasing those B Sides instead of Telephantasm so they may be trying to avert a similar situation.

saikin, if the album is really that close to being done, we're definitely getting new songs on the tour and I cant fucking wait. These guys don't fuck around. This tour may intentionally be to road test these songs to gauge crowd reaction. The tour is limited in scope although bigger than that pre-Superunknown tour where they played a bunch of songs off that.

Knowing them it'll be out by the end of the year.

Knowing them it could be out in two months(unlikely in this era but possible). Their track record is untouchable when it goes from recording demos to releasing albums. Usually only a few months transpire from beginning to end.

Let's not go nuts. They've been sitting on several tracks for years, that have still yet to see final versions.
