I wouldn't call it cheating, but it's tough to compare sales of an album that sold for $9.99 to one that sold for $0.99.  Maybe the record industry should adopt the movie industry's way of tabulating what a movie/CD grosses, more than tickets/copies sold.  I'd venture to guess Taylor Swift's sales accounted for a lot more than Lady Gaga.  So cheating might not be the right word, but it's not really a fair comparison.

The movie industry cheats too. Ticket price inflation and 3D "premium" prices are the only reason records ever get broken. The dirty little secret is that attendance is nowhere near where it used to be when movies like Gone With The Wind and The Sound of Music were in their heyday at the theater.

Only listened a couple times but I agree its her worst album. Like M.I.A. though, it was almost impossible to followup The Fame/Fame Monster. You cant hit a grand slam every single time you step up to the plate.

My "good music is good music" was more a general statement. If I like something, I like it. I don't consider it "falling" for anything.

Even UYI I or II wasn't AFD.

I still haven't listened, I think i'm gonna try to grab it off of download if it's not a buck anymore digitally.

The Fame wasn't anywhere near AFD to begin with. By my count there were four really good tracks (Poker Face, Just Dance, Paparazzi, and Love Game) mixed with a shitload of filler. The Fame Monster was an EP with much stronger quality relative to the number of tracks. Around half of it was really strong. There was a song called "Speechless" which I was hoping would be a step forward for her. But then she comes out with this generic "Born This Way" and "Judas" crap. Anyway, at least UYI showed some growth by the band with tracks like Civil War, Estranged, November Rain, and Coma. Over the top? Yes. Amazing? Hell yes.

I wouldn't call that cheating though.  If consumers are willing to pay the extra money to see the movie, then so be it.  What they lack in tickets sold, they make up for in dollars earned.  What happened in this instance with Lady Gaga is the opposite.  The sales numbers increased due to a decrease in price.  Though I do agree it would've sold near what it did without the $1 price tag.

And I agree about "You And I" Russ, good song.  I always like her best when she sits down at the piano and shows off her talent.

I'm gonna have to do Fame Monster & Born This Way later, but here's my review of "The Fame"...

The Fame

1. Just Dance
--- Catchy as hell. Nice opener. Not really 'big enough' for her refined sound today.

2. LoveGame
--- Lyrics are cheesy as hell, not near as catchy as the opening cut. Not getting into it.

3. Paparazzi
-- Amazingly catchy. Virtually a perfect song. Melodies remind me of 80's dance Queen. Reminds me of Queen's "Scandal".

4. Beautiful, Dirty, Rich
--- Fucking terrible. Yes, i'm serious. What a massive letdown following Paparazzi. Melody sucks, which pop songs are REQUIRED to have.

5. Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)
--- Beautiful song. Synth work is catchy as hell. Reminds me of 80's pop (which I love). Shades of Roxette. GaGa is hot as hell in the video.

6. Poker Face
--- Like Paparazzi, amazingly catchy. Love that ambient horror synth underneath the song (can be heard in the intro). Virtually perfect song.

7. The Fame
--- The title track the album is all about is horrible. Total B-side. Has a nice moment around the 2:30 mark, but that's about it.

8. Money Honey
--- Total B-side. Next...

9. Again Again
--- Nice attempt at an Elton John song. Lacks a strong melody. Outro is terrible. A mixed bag.

10. Boys Boys Boys
--- Love the Beverly Hills Cop synth underneath the song. Melody is great. Catchy for all the same reasons Girls Girls Girls was. Nice late album track.

11. Brown Eyes
--- Total Billy Joel. Great instrumentation. Catchy. Love it.

12. Summerboy
--- Straight up Queen. Catchy as hell. Her vocals are great. Loving it still. Might be the best song on the album.

13. I Like It Rough
--- Decent. Catchy. A nice closer, nothing epic though.

Overall - 4/5. Very good album. I can certaintly understand the appeal of GaGa, but there's nothing new here. Nothing ground breaking. Madonna, Queen, John, Joel, 80's pop, we've heard it all before. But she does it with such a purity, that she deserves your attention and respect.

The Fame Monster EP

1. Bad Romance
--- Unbelieveably catchy. Everything about this song is right. Probably her best song up to this point.

2. Alejandro
--- Whew keeping it going. Extremely catchy. Something about this reminds me of Roxette. This is total epic greatness imho.

3. Monster
--- Instrumentation and intro is amazing, but it drops of quickly there. No real focus, seems to be a bit too high concept for her. Tons of great bits, but eventually seems alot of nothing.

4. Speechless
--- Total Freddie Mercury solo song. Intro is fantastic. Melody gets stuck in your SOUL. GaGa sounds fantastic. Instantly my personal fave.

5. Dance In The Dark
--- I've heard the underlying synth before somewhere, in another song (something from the 80's). Catchy as hell, momentum on the EP stays strong. Another instant favorite.

6. Telephone
--- Total Madonna, so much it's almost plagarism. Stupid dance anthem. Just as boring as redneck country anthems. Don't like it at all. She's better than crap like this.

7. So Happy I Could Die
--- Another cliche, boring as all belief, club anthem. FUCK OFF.

8. Teeth
--- Fucking horrible. EP fuck off in G moment. Good God this terrible.

Overall - 3.5/5 - Pretty Good. The amazing greatness of Bad Romance, Alejandro, Speechless & Dance In The Dark, overshadows the mediocrity of Monster, and the absolutely awfulness of Telephone, So Happy I Could Die, and Teeth. The latter tracks almost come across as cutting room floor demos thrown on to a 4 or 5-track EP in order to pad it a little more. That's the reason I was generous and gave it a 3.5 . The last three tracks on the EP cut off of it make it night and day. Had GaGa released it like that it would've been a 4.5

In hindsight, The Fame album and it's sister EP The Fame Monster, had they been combined with the lesser tracks on The Fame getting cut like LoveGame, Beautiful Dirty Rich, The Fame, Money Honey and Again Again, and replaced with Bad Romance, Alejandro, Speechless and Dance In The Dark - GaGa would've achieved a full-blown music masterpiece worthy of Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame consideration.
