Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
In a recent interview with Planet Rock, legendary guitarist Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, ex-GUNS N' ROSES revealed that his new solo album will be released next spring.
Another record has been mooted for some time but this is the first time that Slash has talked about the schedule for its release.
Although ALTER BRIDGE vocalist Myles Kennedy sang just two tracks on Slash's self-titled solo debut, Slash recently confirmed that Myles will sing everything on the guitarist's next solo effort.
Speaking to Nicky Horne, he revealed, "Myles and I have been writing all throughout the tour so we've got a lot of material, and at this point we're probably gonna start a little bit of pre-production in June and then do the tour in July. In September we're going to [do more] pre-production and the album is slated to come out in March or April."
In a recent interview with The Pulse Of Radio, Kennedy said about the fact that Slash would like him to handle the lead vocals on the guitarist's next CD, "It's very flattering. I think there's kind of a cool thing we got going. We really enjoy working with each other. I know they're auditioning singers now for VELVET REVOLVER, so I don't know if they find the right guy if that'll affect things timing-wise. I'm not really sure. But the plan right now is that yeah, we'll do a record together down the road."
Slash's debut disc came out last year and featured a different singer on each track, including Chris Cornell, Ozzy Osbourne, M. Shadows and others.

Looking forward to this. Now that the live band has had time to gel together on the road, I'm sure that will help create some inspired new music.

I'm expecting this to really really suck.
I know Slash likes to record fast, Izzy too, but I think it's just too soon.
I 'liked' the last album, but I don't think it was all-time or anything.
I'm hoping it'll surpass Slash 2010.

Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
Never quite understood your luke-warm reaction to that album...there's some great songs on there, like "By the Sword" and "Ghost"....not the best album of all time I guess...but defintately a very solid record.....
the new album has time for the band to have developed a bit of chemestry together rather than just having session guys. Meanwhile the last album was written for a bunch of singers in mind, and thus a lot of styles, and this one will focus on the kind of rock song myles delivers.
I think "Back from Cali" and "Starlight" that myles did were pretty kickass...if he can also punch out some heavier numbers as well..then it could be a really strong record.
As for the time...it's been a couple of years for slash on the road...and who knows how many VR era riffs he has saved up that he's giving over to this band..hahah....he already did it with ghost...and his soloing is on fire at the moment...so it's a good time for him to record!

Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
I have a feeling it will stiff badly.
The sell for the last album was Slash with a nice chunk of singers that lots of people could have been interested in hearing rock out with him.
With just Myles at the helm, that essentially like taking three wheels off the car. The songs may be good / great but without Myles having become a Grade A star in recent times, I don't expect this to do any more business than Snakepit this time out. The model Slash has reverted to is actually too similar to the Snakepit one for the outcoem to be any different.
I hope I'm totally wrong.
Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
myles kennedy has become one of my all time favourite rock singers and musicians and starlight was in my opinion the best song slash came up with since gnr, so i wouldn`t be too shocked if this turns out to be a great record!

Business wise I think you are right. Slash will have picked up some casual fans from GH3 and the collaboration with fergie and others on the solo record, but then he was a huge star already in the era of snakepit 1...so I'm not suspecting anything shocking.
So i'd say it'll be the core slash fan base buying, some casuals who check it out, and probably part of the alterbridge fan base too...but yeah I doubt it will move the earth sales wise - probably going to be one of those nieche albums like snakepit 1 - but then slash seems to record to tour anyway - so he probably wont be too fussed.
When I was saying I'm hoping it's a great album I was meaning creatively speaking...I think Myles and Slash together has a lot of possibility.
Re: SLASH: Next Solo Album To Arrive In March/April
I'm not expecting much, but I'll check it out if/when it comes out. I wasn't too impressed with the first album. I think Slash writes solos and riffs fairly well to awesome, but the overall songs are just not that impressive to me. His live playing was tight and probably as good as I've ever heard him, so it's not his playing.
I think it may just be time to accept his limitations as an artist. He's great at what he does, but he's not a great songwriter. I notice a huge difference even between VR (where Duff appears to have played a huge role in writing) and his solo stuff. Just because someone can play doesn't mean they can write (and vice versa).
