Re: The chances of them playing unreleased songs @ RiR
the other night on gnr twitter they mentioned vaguely there was a possibility they'd play new/unheard songs when they play RiR later this year
so i thought i ask you guys what you think the chances of that occurring are.
& i'm not talking about The General playing as intro music or snippets of whatevr Axl plays as his NR intro. proper songs.
i'm skeptical & nonplussed atm, but i suspect by the time RiR creeps upon us i'll be getting excited at the possibilities..

Re: The chances of them playing unreleased songs @ RiR
yeah metalalex mentioned this the other day - that every time they played rio they have premiered something.
I think it's a good posibility. Could be wrong. But there's been a bit of a break since the last tour...it's a logical time to lay out a new song. I'm not expecting it in the way that i'd be upset if it didn't happen...more excited that it seems like there's more posibility of it at this show than a generic show mid tour.

yea but wasn't Sturgis a little like a one-off show too?
i know RiR is vastly different & completely out of sync with GnR on-tour, but Sturgis was an opportunity to do something different & they treated it like any other show - worse they actually devolved & were afraid of playing the new material @ Sturgis..
Re: The chances of them playing unreleased songs @ RiR
Voted I don't care.
While GNR aren't beyond making a good business decision, they certainly can't be dictated by the outside. If Axl wants to play a new song, he will. But there's nothing out there of which we know of to force his hand into it.
Having said that, this is RiR, historically a good place to hear all-new GNR music. At Sturgis, I reckon the band was playing it safe (song-wise) on their first proper appearance in front of an American crowd since 2006. Rio loves GNR, and they were the first to hear Madagascar back in the day.
Even so, I don't care. If it happens, I'll be pleasantly surprised. If not, it can't be any worse than following the Inland Invasion stream. I actually fell asleep on that one.
It's not that I wouldn't like to hear new GNR music, just that I've grown to the notion that waiting doesn't make time go by any faster.

Re: The chances of them playing unreleased songs @ RiR
There was no option for "maybe"...
Given their history with RIR, good bets say that they will, but I kinda doubt it.
Interesting that for every GN'R performance at RIR, the band lineup has been different too. The only consistency has been with Axl & Dizzy.
This lineup is much more rock n roll, look and sound-wise (like the 1991 version) than the 2001 version was.
Re: The chances of them playing unreleased songs @ RiR
I didn't vote, because I think 'Maybe' is my option too.
Nothing is a 'lock' in the GN'Rverse. Yes, history is on the fan's side here. 1991 they premiered UYI, 2001 they premiered CD, 2011 - maybe a new title?
Who knows. What I think would be REALLY REALLY REALLY COOL of Axl, is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of playing Rio II, if Axl were to totally just WASH CD out. GN'R play the show, play 3 or so new songs off of their upcoming album (whatever and whenever that is), and also play a SHITLOAD of "Use Your Illusion" songs to celebrate the 20th anniversary, including surprise appearences by Izzy & Duff, with Izzy performing Dust N' Bones & 14 Years, Duff performing So Fine, and all of them performing an 'off' song like You Ain't The First.
Because like metallex said, this 2011 is band is much more straight up rock n' roll, like the '91 band, than the 2001 band.
I know all of this is pie in the sky, but hey - a fan can dream, can't he?
