Although we've yet to confirm the validity, Amazon has set up pre-orders for the Butcher Bros.' April Fool's Day remake, which they report will arive at retailers on DVD March 25. We'll keep you posted as we hear more. The new "April Fool's" revolves around a party given by two uber rich siblings, played by Taylor Cole ("Supernatural") and Josh Henderson ("Desperate Housewives"), for their friend (Scout Taylor-Compton of "Halloween"). Tragedy strikes when a friend falls over a balcony and dies. One by one, each partygoer is found dead.

I think we're seeing the first casualty for the horror genre in relation to the writers strike. This was anticipated by a lot of horror fans, and was expected to get a theatrical release in late 08/early 09. Instead it looks like its been rushed and will hit DVD in march. Sounds like they couldn't get a decent script so they threw something together real quick hoping to make some cash on the DVD market.

I predicted last year that 08/09 would be a terrible time for horror. The writers strike will affect everything, but horror will take an even bigger hit because there's always so much chaff you have to dig through to get to the wheat, and the strike will make it even worse.

I now have zero interest in this, but will watch it out of curiosity.

I agree and will watch it because the original wasn't exactly a masterpiece, so it's not like we're treading on hallowed ground. Plus Scout Taylor-Compton. Really that's the main reason, Scout. She's so damn cute. The 2000s have been pretty uneven for horror, perhaps not quite as bad as the whole of the 90s but there's been very few standouts. Recently, 2003 was a rare golden year, but things just as quickly fell apart with the sudden popularity of the teenie bopper J-horror remakes and ripoffs. To me, horror will always be epitomized by the 70s and 80s. While the 80s saw a dip in quality for a lot of these flicks, the sheer output because of home video was massive. Unfortunately, many of those same films further turned the genre into a joke ... a punchline the media still thinks they can zing.

Damn, this is gonna be very cheesy.

I watched the original at the Drive-In. Double feature with Friday the 13th part VI.

Original was cool, but those kills were lame and a downside is the title gives away the ending. Will be interesting to see if they put a different spin on things.

I watched this the other night. Complete shit. Avoid like the plague. Scout completely wastes what buzz she got for Zombie's Halloween, and her career will likely take a severe plunge. Rest of the cast was horrific, and this was a remake in name only.
