COREY TAYLOR Says Landing VELVET REVOLVER Singer Gig 'Wasn't In The Cards' - Apr. 30, 2011
David "Gus" Griesinger of BackstageAxxess.com conducted an interview with SLIPKNOT members Corey Taylor (also of STONE SOUR) and Shawn "Clown "Crahan on the "black carpet" of the third annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which was held on April 20 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California. You can now watch the chat below.

When asked if there is still a chance that he will become the new lead singer of VELVET REVOLVER, Taylor replied, "It wasn't in the cards, and that's cool. I made some great friends; obviously, I'm jamming with [VELVET REVOLVER bassist] Duff [McKagan's DUFF MCKAGAN'S LOADED] tonight. It was just cool to kind of get together with them and jam, man. But it's all good."

Taylor may not be adding "VELVET REVOLVER frontman" to his resume as rumored, but VELVET bassist Duff McKagan says that recordings exist of Taylor singing with the band. Asked about the speculation that Taylor was their man, McKagan told Music Radar, "We recorded a bunch of songs with Corey. I think he's fucking great. Whether he's in VELVET REVOLVER or not . . . I think he's the best voice of a new generation. The best rock 'n' voice out there. He's got a lot of positive energy. I'd be proud to do anything with him."

McKagan added, "But the truth is . . . I can't see VELVET REVOLVER happening till fall, maybe. (VELVET guitarist) Slash is touring, I'm just starting to tour . . . We'll just see. I just don't have an answer. I don't."

This was the first time that a member of VELVET REVOLVER has confirmed actually recording with Taylor.

It was just two months ago that it looked increasingly likely that VELVET REVOLVER was going to announce Taylor as the band's new vocalist. Taylor had hinted at it, and both McKagan and Slash had confirmed meeting with Taylor.

But things seemed to cool down in March, with Taylor recently sporting a "I am not the new singer in VELVET REVOLVER" T-shirt and McKagan telling England's Total Rock that the band may even put its search on hold again.

Slash has said in recent interviews that he plans to make a new solo album this year, while McKagan is touring with his side band LOADED and launching a wealth management firm for musicians.

Taylor is currently on the road with STONE SOUR and will do some summer festival gigs with SLIPKNOT.

Yeah, just say it's over. It wouldn't make sense to revive the band in 2 or 3 or 5 years. Slash and Duff (with matt or anyone else) can start a new band anytime in the future, when they'll find a singer they both like - with a new rhythm guitarist, too. I don't understand why they force this VR thing, since it wasn't that big, and they have an even smaller fanbase today. They don't even have a record label, as far as I know. I don't even get why Corey would leave his more popular bands for them - except that nothing can top a band with Slash N' Duff.

I think VR still carries SOME weight.  I still hear them played on the radio and DJ's talking about when and if VR will get a new singer.  Obviously nothing is happening anytime soon (YEARS), but they could always get back together once they're done doing their side projects.  The demand isn't great, but there will always be a bit of interest mainly because of Slash and Duff.

VR carries no weight this long out. I mean sure, if you want them at festivals going on 7-8 acts before Hinder, then yeah "they're back", whatever.

Slash has gone solo, Slash is staying solo, Duff's doing Loaded, they might occasionally collaborate... something tells me the next time you see them all together it'll be called Guns N' Roses.

That'll happen before VR comes back, imho.

I think the only thing that will carry weight, is that if and when they do get back together, they have two albums of material already out there, rather than starting from scratch with all completely new songs.

I really, really hope Duff does something with Corey.

And I would have loved to hear Robert Plant playing with Slash and Duff.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks Slash is putting the go slow on VR in hopes of a GNR reunion around HOF time.

Pretty sure Axl will tell him to get fucked anyway, but if you think about it, an active and ass kicking VR just does lessen the impact a reunion would have, and in some ways the chances of talking axl into it. Creating an "us and him" imagine by having essentially 3/5 of GNR without him.

Don't think it will work, but I think maybe that's the theory - then add in that it seems there's been writing issues in VR from the beginning - and that his solo thing got some traction and it's not surprising slash has bailed.

Faldor probably has a better take on this since I don't have sirius, but Scott was on Howard Stern today and apparantly blames VR breaking up on Perla. And then everyones wives got involved with the band.

And the pictures I saw of that Bee the transexual... She really wasn't bad looking. But I hear her fake vagina is a mess 16
