I was just always pissed off that they lost their edge.
They could've still been big, bombastic, melodic, ballad-ey, totally 80's.... and they still could've been bad mother fuckers doing it.
I never understood why they became so campy later on.
Too much money in it for them not to. I actually liked them up until Get a Grip, but I found I gravitated more to the non-singles on their albums.
What Steven said about Joe Perry is how Axl feels about Slash even if he doesn't know it. He's come close to admitting it a couple times.

If this surprized someone they've evidently never heard Tyler's lyrics before.

Absolutely agreed. I always felt that they had a torrid love affair artistically-speaking.
It's like when you fall in love with someone that is totally against your type, and you're polar opposites. When it's on, it's fucking ON, and it's the best moments of your life, and when it's off, you're holding each other at knife point.
Axl's been trying to replace Slash and specifically "the magic" for years, and absolutely hating himself for it. Yet he can't bring himself to submit to bring it back, or otherwise it compromises his own belief system - whatever that is.
