I wasn't comparing the bands per se. Just the situations. In GNR we heard sporadically through the years that the record was coming. Now for the last 4 years we've seemed to get monthly updates on how VR will be reconvening and exciting things are on the horizon. Both situations kept the fans strung along to try and keep whatever interest was left, alive.
VR could easily get things going again in a few years, regardless of the demand. What's the demand of "Loaded"? How about a Slash/Myles album? I'd say a lot less than a new VR album, even if its 3 years down the pike. Obviously I wouldn't expect them to light the world on fire. Interest has been dying down for years now. That doesn't mean they can't exist anymore.

Corey could have been a singer who wins a new, great audience for the band. He could have helped to revive the interest. I don't know anyone who could have been much better for it, except the crazy one.

I don't think the world is anxiously waiting for a third album. They weren't THAT good.
Slash & Duff imo only get asked about VR in interviews as a courtesy of the interviewer to be respectful. Obviously the important stuff is GN'R, will they do that again, and what are they doing 'right now'.
The point is... Axl waits and waits with GN'R and he builds anticipation, and even that anticipation was/is an anti-climax.
Slash & Duff wait for VR, and every day they aren't doing anything is another day that takes a few percentage points away from interest.
VR getting back together in 2014, TEN YEARS after Contraband and trying to revive interest based on what, Sucker Train, Set Me Free, Slither & Fall To Pieces? You know - the epics. 
If they do VR again, it'll be something will have to totally be rebooted from the ground up again imo.
Problem is, next time they won't have that 'supergroup' momentum going in. That was a one time thing, for 2004 only. Not to mention, let's say 2014 is the year, unless they do the RNRHOF w/ Axl, they're gonna be 21 years seperated from GN'R.
Sure, VR can be reformed and they can be opener #12 in some European rock festival, but that mainstream stuff they got in the rock scene... that's gone... that's all i'm saying.
And personally with that part gone, I think Slash will just want to stick with his solo career. I don't think he really gives a shit what Duff's doing. Hell in three years, I wouldn't be shocked if Duff is back in Guns without Slash.

You're trying to make an argument that isn't there. I never said VR was going to, or could come back stronger than ever. I simply said, they could reform in a few years when they're all done with their side projects. The demand for their return is besides the point.

VR is a corpse that won't get up and walk and I feel now that Slash wants it that way.
I think Slash may be believing that people are buying him again because of his work with Myles, I think that is a mistake.
If I was his manager I'd be trying to get Slash to bring out a second comilation album seeking the services of people like Dave Grohl, Mike Patton, James Hetfield, Lady GaGa, Tom Yorke, Chris Cornell, Bille Joe Armstrong, Bono & Rianna. A real lucky bag of assorted charms for all ears.
I don't think he relly has any other kind of 'big future' at this stage unless he reunites with Uncle Ax of course...

Hmmmm, Slash is really saying, "why get VR up and going when GNR is going to reunite in 2012"..... He doesn't need a VR tour ruining that.

Sadly, you guys are right that VR is dead in the water. Slash's solo stuff will always fall short for me, Loaded is actually really cool stuff though.
I wish they'd drag Izzy out of his hidey hole and stay together, but I wouldn't be a GNR fan if I didn't know how to deal with disappointment I guess.

I reckon duff will join gnr in the future but not slash if gnr old manger could make it happen i doubt will see it
