Metallica, yes. Until the reLoad album. Skynyrd not so much. I like LS, to a point. Some if it's just goofy redneck shit.

I think we're from the same place though, right? Central Florida? Alt Rock was huge there, when I was growing up.

I guess it just depends on who your influences/hang with. I was pretty damn young at that time, but I was a pretty sharp kid with a pipeline to MTV, and first discovering music.

But I was also raised in a rural community with a close connect at appreciation of the country-way, and de-preciation at the cities who had a major disconnect with what we liked and wanted.

In other words, I was very much among a 'country music' crowd.

During that time period, I remember Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Garth Brooks & George Strait being the biggest acts of the time, and the area. GN'R & Garth were universal in popularity. Jovi appealed to more of the chicks. Metallica, although they were exploding into even bigger mainstream popularity, still were more of a niche band and were universally appealing to men, but girls seemed to hate it, and in their minds it was "death metal" ( 10 ). Aerosmith, KISS & Van Halen were some others that seemed to be getting some revisionist love at the time, and who's radio-ready songs were pretty popular. Queen saw some attention due to Freddie's death, but were still pretty much seen as "a bunch of fags".

Rap was hated by almost everyone I knew (with maybe the exception of Hammer), including my black friends,  who were more into the 'new jack swing' artists, with Michael Jackson's stuff at the time being pretty fuckin' big as was Madonna, and MJ & Madonna also seemed to have universal popularity, like Guns, Jovi & Garth.

As for 'alt rock', as far as the "Left of the Dial" artists were non-existant. Nobody knew who they were, nor did they want to know. If U2 could be considered 'alt rock', they were fuckin' huge and universally popular, and I also remember R.E.M. being pretty big too, and alot of people liked them (not everyone).

Grunge was hated with an absolute passion, and Nirvana were 'fags'. Late 1992/early 1993, grunge started to be accepted more, specifically Alice In Chains (which was 'the big un' for just about everyone by that point), and Pearl Jam was starting to be liked more and more. Nirvana was still hated (probably more), and Stone Temple Pilots & Soundgarden weren't even on the radar.

Michael Bolton was a fucking superstar with the women.

When did Boys II Men take off? I remember them being pretty popular.

GUNS N' ROSES's 'Chinese Democracy' Re-Enters BILLBOARD Chart - Apr. 7, 2011
"Chinese Democracy", the 2008 album released by the current edition of GUNS N' ROSES after a 15-year wait, sold around 3,200 copies in the United States in the week ending Sunday, April 3 — nearly three times the units (1,200) it shifted the previous week. As a result, the CD has re-entered The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 198.

As previously reported, "Chinese Democracy" can now be purchased at BestBuy.com for $1.99.

Best Buy was the exclusive U.S. retailer for "Chinese Democracy", reportedly paying $14 million for 1.6 million copies. But the album was a major sales disappointment, moving just 619,000 copies despite the curiosity and hype surrounding its release.

The CD was officially certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on February 3, 2009 for shipments in the United States in excess of one million copies.

Aside from Billboard and Spinner interviews and answering a number of fan questions at a GUNS N' ROSES message board, singer Axl Rose has done no promotion of any kind for "Chinese Democracy".

"Chinese Democracy" came out 15 years after its predecessor, 1993's "The Spaghetti Incident". It took more than a decade to record, during which every original member of the band except Rose was replaced and four different producers were used.

Nevertheless, Rose hinted in a 2002 interview that the lengthy sessions for the record had left him with enough material for two follow-ups.

Just saw this at Metalsucks.net:

GUNS ‘N ROSES – CHINESE DEMOCRACY
Last week: 3,158
Cume: 618,763

3,158 people paid $1.99 for this Best Buy dust bunny last week… which means Best Buy is exactly $6,284.42 closer to recouping the $14 million they spent on purchasing 1.6 million copies of this bad boy in 2008. Congrats! Baby steps.

Good enough to re-enter the Billboard top 200, BARELY, at #199.

It's also #22 on the Catalog Albums chart, one spot ahead of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon".

It's something, I guess.  Honestly, if Best Buy made it more aware that it was $1.99 it might do even better.  A hand made sign in aisle stating it's $1.99 perhaps?  Too much to ask?  Nobody has cared about this album from the start though, so why start now?

If they give it away for free, it will be even in the Top 150! 9

Holy shit, are you serious?

All this time, the massive amounts of CD sitting on the shelves collecting dust, about 30 copies per store, and yet you can't find any at your local BB.

That's amazing really. Even at $2 bucks, I never thought each store would exhaust their stock.

There were 25 copies out on the shelves in my local store after I bought 5 two weeks ago.  I haven't been back since to check out if the number has gone down, though the curiosity does tempt me.

Either that, or they were too lazy to restock it. But they're pretty on the ball here. I'll check back again before I get it online.

i know they have to try and get rid of them anyways but does anyone think this may be a sign that another album could be coming this year? then again i don't like the best buy exclusive thing. i believe it only hurt sales. if cd sold 619,000 from the best buy deal i bet it would be closer to a legitimate 1,000,000 by now if it was available everywhere.
