Re: ADLER: All I Want From AXL Is To Do A Classic GN'R Reunion
ADLER: All I Want From AXL Is To Do The Right Thing, Which Is A Classic GN'R Reunion - Apr. 1, 2011
Gerry Gittelson of the North Hollywood - Toluca Lake Patch conducted an interview earlier this week with former GUNS N' ROSES and current ADLER'S APPETITE drummer Steven Adler. You can now watch the first two parts of the chat below.
In a recent interview with The Jewish Chronicle, Adler stated about his former band, "Why do you think we were so successful? Because it was the five of us. We had something special. We had a bond. No matter how much bullshit there's been all these years, there's one thing that Axl [Rose] and his lawyers can never take away, and that's that we were five brothers who achieved the goals we had since before we were teenagers. And what do brothers do best? They fight with each other! I don't hate them now. My wounds are healed. It's a shame that Axl and Slash won't talk. Every day they don't talk is a day that magic isn't being created. Even if we just did one tour, one record, one song together, the gods want to hear it."
Regarding why he thinks a reunion of GUNS N' ROSES' classic lineup should happen, he said, "There's all the love I receive around the world. I have heard 'Appetite For Destruction' is the soundtrack to my life' in so many languages. And there's the money we could make. The whole thing could make billions of dollars. All we have to do is get on stage with each other for 90 minutes. And I want to finish what I started. Thank God for putting these jackasses in my life."

While I'd love to see it too, that was a lifetime ago Steven. Things have changed drastically since then. They're no longer 5 twenty somethings roughing it on the streets of LA. He acts as if it would be so easy to just pick up where they left off 20 years ago without skipping a beat.

I think in alot of ways what Steven is wanting to say, without not saying it is he wants HIS "Use Your Illusion" tour. The headlining Guns N' Roses bigger than life tour that he felt he missed the ship on, being fired n' all.
I gotta be honest, as much as i'd absolutely geek out on a Guns N' Roses reunion, they won't re-capture that 1990 magic.
At the absolutely best circumstances, they do stadiums across the world for 2-1/2 years one more time, hit social relevance for about 15 minutes again, run on a new song/single that hits on rock radio and they pimp out on TV, while they tour a 'best of' anthology set, containing a couple new songs.
MAYBE, they might have ONE more album left in them, talking about starting out in the streets (AFD), hitting fame (UYI), and coming full circle (new old Guns final album), as a finale of sorts to their legacy.
That's under the absolutely best fanboy circumstances.
Steven wants to relive the 20 years he feel the old Guns lost, and he lost - the reality is, GN'R was dead within only a few years of his firing.
Plus he's forgetting, that Slash & Duff are not going to slight Matt for Steven exclusivity, and Axl's not gonna slight Dizzy, plus you gotta question of Izzy would even sign up full-time, more likely opting for guest appearences. You're GN'R "AFD" reunion would suddenly turn into Axl, Slash, Izzy/Gilby/Richard, Duff, Steven/Matt, Dizzy/Teddy/Chris... or something like that.
It'd be cool to happen, but this bare-basics club band touring stadiums shit like it's 1991 at Rio II, except with Steven... it's just gone man. Sad as it is, it's not gonna happen.

I think you got that down with a realistic view and I stand by it. Well done.

i'd like to think that if izzy, duff, axl and slash were reunited and writing new songs that they would strike gold. axl and slash alone could come up with some great new shit. throw izzy in and the possibilities are endless. just my opinion.
