Re: Journey's new CD a masterpiece?
The dude who runs http://melodicrock.com/ has Eclipse and says its the best Journey ever. Strong words. There's no direct link to the post, it's just on his front page.
I will say, I recently saw the special Journey in the Philippines on Palladium, and I was impressed with the lineup, especially Arnel on vocals. He sounds downright exactly like Steve Perry at times.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to picking up Eclipse.
Re: Journey's new CD a masterpiece?
Maybe. MelodicRock.com had a review on Mr. Big's album What If, giving it 100% across the board, their highest markings, and said how amazing it was... I thought it fuckin' sucked.
There's alot of highlighting of great music over at that place, but sometimes they can be a bit fanboyish. You know the obvious fans when they review stuff.
I got to be honest, coming out of the gate and saying Eclipse is Journey's 'best', regardless of the word 'masterpiece', immediately puts it in a position that it will never live up too, ala Chinese Democracy.
It's gonna have to be damn good to pull off those statements.
Re: Journey's new CD a masterpiece?
Agreed, Axlin, and it's clear he's a fan of the band. So you gotta take that with a grain of salt. Still, having seen the Live in Manila special, Schon is on top of his game, and Arnel is the real deal. I didn't even get Revelation, but I'm gonna give Eclipse a chance.
MelodicRock is high on Whitesnake's new CD too. Anybody got that one? Or is it even out yet?
Re: Journey's new CD a masterpiece?
Wow, that's pretty good. Vibe kind of reminds me of something vintage Queen would've done.
However, I wouldn't say it's "so amazing" that it's the best thing, or apart of the best thing, Journey has ever done. Just about all of Escape is better, but that's not to say this track is bad. It's very good, and has that vintage Journey spirit.
And you're right Bri, Pineda sounds like vintage Perry at times. It's eerie.
