Re: Mike Starr, Founding Member of AIC Found Dead
I wonder how close the AIC members really were with Mike Starr though, because if they were as close as they say, maybe Mike wouldn't be in this situation he's ended up in?
He was kicked out of the band for a reason, was that reason the heavy drug use?
Re: Mike Starr, Founding Member of AIC Found Dead
Like Neemo said, Mike left because they thought he was going to die, plus I think he was reluctant to go to rehab, plus like Steven in Guns, it reached that point that he wasn't being able to play the material anymore.
Despite the double standard, that was the sole difference between Layne and Mike is that Layne as a vocalist could still hobble in (no offense man) and be the greatest grunge vocalist alive.
I think Sean tried to contact at least Layne, around 2001 and was being ignored. So a rift was there. It was obvious Layne was still hanging with Mike Starr, even it was drug buddies.
Maybe he was using weed for pain relief or something?
Could've been, another possible cause is if Mike was abusing again, opioids have a habit of slowing your digestive system down and lowering your appetite, sometimes killing it all together.
The weed could've been used to stimulate his appetite, while not cutting the drugs out of his diet.
Or, more likely - pain relief. Typically a opium user, whether heroin or synthetic (opioids), that has used for years, their bodies adjust and even without withdrawals stay in chronic pain for the rest of their life without the drug. Methadone is a BIG one for this that alot of former users get prescribed to take to maintain pretty much for the rest of their life. Mike was using Methadone, so he was already taking that, probably for pain relief.
That's why I thought the weed might be for stimulated appetite for all of the opioids he was on.

MIKE STARR Memorial In Seattle: Photos, Report Available - Mar. 21, 2011
Friends, family and fans of ALICE IN CHAINS and its original bass player, Mike Starr, gathered at the International Fountain at Seattle Center Sunday (March 20) to listen to the band's music as a public memorial to Starr.
Photos from the event can be found at SeattleTimes.com. A short report on the gathering is available at this location.
As previously reported, Starr's funeral has reportedly been put on hold for a few more weeks. The medical examiner has told the family that more time is needed to perform additional tests on Starr's body, according to TMZ.com. The 44-year-old musician and onetime "Celebrity Rehab" cast member was found dead in a Salt Lake City house on March 8 by friend and current bandmate, former DAYS OF THE NEW frontman Travis Meeks.
There's no word on what tests the medical examiner needs to conduct. Friends said that Starr was taking methadone to kick a longtime drug habit and also taking an anti-anxiety medication at the same time.
He was arrested and briefly jailed for drug possession in Salt Lake City last month, after police there pulled over the van he was traveling in. Starr was found in possession of 12 pills without a prescription.
Mike's family intends to hold both a private and public funeral service once Starr's body is released to them.
