Weekend Rock Question: Who is the Best Songwriter of All Time?
Cast your vote in our weekly poll

Last week, we asked Rolling Stone readers to name their favorite live act of all time – and we compiled the votes into an official top 10 list.
Now it's time for a new weekend rock question: Who is the best songwriter of all time? We encourage you to be open to all genres in your voting, and to consider non-performers like Dianne Warren and behind-the-scenes teams such as Holland-Dozier-Holland and the Matrix in addition to singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Prince and Bob Dylan.

Elvis & Co make you feel better?
To save you time i am aware of the 1/3 credit deal Elvis had. I also feel he was the voice and image of many wonderful songs that would not have seen the light of the day without him. To say he did NOT write songs is a negative blanket statement.
I write songs on a napkin all the time they are MY songs but no one gives a shit. If Otis writes a songs base, plays it for Elvis, then Elvis says lets add this, and take this out. Then Elvis arranges the song to fit his style, Sings it a way no other could, To me this is all a part of songwriting.
If I had a popular musician around to trade licks & lyrics with I would go for it. I would never say no this song is final! Even a popular culture hit song can evolve to take on a whole new life with a different performer adding his "stamp" to a piece by rearranging. IMHO
