Re: Great Axl & Kurt article
That said, Nevermind is one of my favourite rock albums ever, up there with AFD and Metallica's black album. Absolute classic from start to finish.

Did someone in this thread really compare Dave Grohl to John Bonham? Ban him!
Probably a stretch, but I wouldn't say he's far off. Dave Grohl is a beast behind the drum kit, and over the years he's just gotten better and better.

a big whatever to y'all...sure he wasnt a guitar god but he was good...and he sang as well...ever try to sing a nirvana song and play it on guitar at the same time? its fucking hard man...dunno what it is but i cant to this day sing come as you are and sing it at the same time
if In Utero was a hint of things to come then we mised out on alot of great tunes...and Kurt hadnt even tapped Grohl's songwriting ability at that point
I just want to say that Nirvana's stuff is hard to sing, because there's no singing involved. There's not much of a melody to most of Nirvana's songs, which leaves it difficult to find a rhythm, AND when Kurt did do higher notes, he simply screamed them.
Freddie Mercury is difficult to sing for all the right reasons, Kurt - all the wrong.
With that said, I also want to re-state this isn't a Nirvana bash fest. I loved the guys, even though I thought they all could be self-imporant, egotistical douche bags, that made GN'R and Axl look humbled and nice, even in 1992.
I loved all of Nirvana's albums, with In Utero walking to the finish line as their finest work. I wouldn't say they were better or worse than Soundgarden or Pearl Jam, but I definitely feel AIC were the best of the four.
Nirvana, no melody, really?
They were kings of melody, and their songs were so catchy!
Kurt may have screamed in his delivery, but man, he really knew how to write a melody that stuck in your head.

You have GOT to be being sarcastic...
you have got to be sarcastic.
that no melody thing is EASILY one of the most preposterous & bemusing things i've read since joining this board, on ANY subject.
the whole point of Nirvana was their melody - that they were able to take grunge/hardcore/metal & turn it into POP music.

There are beasts and then there is John Bonham on a completely different level of beast mode.

About a Girl?
School? NO RECESS! NO RE-CE-EE-SS!!
& if u wouldn't mind i would like it blew..
oh fuck! what a cracking little record!
I'm a Negative Creep & I'm Stoned! so many hooks!
but i don't think they grew into it either. i think kurt was always writting those poppy songs - been a son/sappy. it's just on Bleach he purposefully tried to avoid the pop songs (save for About A Girl) so Nirvana could release a 'hardcore' debut - which was the thing at the time, the Meat Puppets & most 80s alt-rock bands put out a hardcore debut before expanding their sound on their second album..
