DUFF MCKAGAN Talks To KERRANG! About New LOADED Album, VELVET REVOLVER Rumors (Video) - Mar. 8, 2011
Kerrang! magazine conducted an interview with an interview with Duff McKagan (DUFF MCKAGAN'S LOADED, VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES) shortly after his appearance at the Birmingham Guitar Show, which took place February 26-27 at the New Bingley Hall in Birmingham, England. You can now watch the chat below.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, it was just a few weeks ago that it looked increasingly likely that VELVET REVOLVER was going to announce STONE SOUR and SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor as the band's new vocalist. Taylor had hinted at it, and both VELVET guitarist Slash and McKagan had confirmed meeting with Taylor.
But now it seems that the whole thing is cooling down, with Taylor recently sporting a "I am not the new singer in VELVET REVOLVER" T-shirt and McKagan telling England's Total Rock that the band may even put its search on hold again. McKagan explained, "[Taylor's] the brightest and best singer of a generation and I think he's killer. But I don't think VELVET REVOLVER is . . . there's not much urgency there to do much of anything right now, so . . . one day, hopefully."
McKagan added, "I think Slash is probably gonna go make another [solo] record [next], so that's cool. That's what it is."
Slash has said in recent interviews that he plans to make a new solo album this year, while McKagan is touring with his side band LOADED and launching a wealth management firm for musicians.
When asked by the Charlotte Observer about the Taylor rumors, Slash said, "There was truth to the rumor that we were looking at Corey Taylor, but then I left for tour. So there's nothing being done at the moment. No decision."
Taylor is currently on the road with STONE SOUR and will do some summer festival gigs with SLIPKNOT.
VELVET REVOLVER has been without a singer since firing Scott Weiland in April 2008. The band's last album, "Libertad", came out in 2007.

Re: DUFF MCKAGAN Talks To KERRANG! About New LOADED Album, VELVET REVOLVER
Something is going on with VR.
I think they must have some kind of serious agreement personality conflicts going on....I mean it's never made sense why Myles doesn't get the Job - if he has time for Alterbridge while touring the world with Slash year after year, he could have done the same with VR. But I thought maybe that was a one-off or soemthing about him.
But now they got Corey Taylor, frontman for Stone Sour and Slipknott dancing around the band and interested....and they're opting to shelve the whole project again for another few years.
I'd love to know what the dynamic is with this band. Is slash doing his own thing because they can't agree, or is there some kind of other tension going on.

^^
Good question. It's really beyond ridiculous. Slash could wait a year and then do another solo album/tour if you have a chance to get Corey.
Maybe its him throwing a tantrum over Myles not being the VR guy. It has to be something. I don't understand it.
Re: DUFF MCKAGAN Talks To KERRANG! About New LOADED Album, VELVET REVOLVER
Personally I think what happened is Slash wanted Myles to be the guy, and the songs on his solo album was a test run. Slash's solo album takes off and gets alot bigger than he ever expected it to get.
Now he doesn't want to put his growing solo career on ice, to go back to VR. Plus, he's also feeling Axl-syndrome. With Slash's solo career, he calls the shots - all of them. And it's obvious by who's been fronting his band all this year, that Myles was/is/wants to be/gonna be/wait maybe not - is or isn't the guy that Slash wanted.
Let's be honest, Dave & Matt don't call shit. This is a VR split decision, because I think it's becoming very obvious that Slash wants Myles and Duff wants Corey and neither are willing to budge.
I say everyone call a truce and just settle for Izzy.

It's a tough situation with Slash, cause as I see it, he's really happy with Myles, they have a great chemistry, they've been on the road for a year and he doesn't wanna spoil the momentum, the possibility of recording a real album with band chemistry. Hence Salsh doesn't wanna postpone the Myles album for the doubtful new VR recording, cause only God knows how the songwriting would turn out, how much chemistry would be there.
I agree with Axlin that Slash is happy that he's the boss, he calls all the shots and there is no band drama. In VR, he had to work hard to convince the others that Slither is worth working on.

Slash's live band, of the few times I've seen them, kicks major ass, and are drama-free. I don't see why Slash would wanna leave that to go back to ego clashes on VR.
I think they'll have a real chemistry in the studio together after bonding on the road.

Re: DUFF MCKAGAN Talks To KERRANG! About New LOADED Album, VELVET REVOLVER
Yeah...I've always thought the VR guys had some chemestry too...like Slash and Duff we're just born to play together - but it does also seem that the writing has always been fraught with problems - as Mikkamakka points out - even slither was a fight - and I think Scott himself said he rejected CDs worth of Slash/Izzy riffs.....
I do love some of the VR songs though - there's some killer tracks - but I must agree there's also a lot of numbers where like the sum of the whole just isn't more than the sum of the parts like it usually is when these guys are "on". I totally agree with duffs comments a few years back that VR are "yet to make their best album". And you see the riffs/solos comming out of slash at the moment...and I can see why he'd get frustrated.
Anyway, I do agree with Metallex as well...the solo band is bad fucking ass. I guess i just miss duff. Not that the current bass player isn't cool and all though. But yeah...i am pretty excited about a slash/myles album for sure. I think the solo album has kinda been slash's best project in years and years..scott wasn't letting him shine as he should in VR enough.
I just wonder. I mean VR's been absent now since 2008. So slash spends all of 2011 doing spot tours then recording, so then it's like march 2012 for a release....then a tour would lofically go till at least the start of 2013. Starting to look bad for VR.
I thought his initial plan was to do VR while alterbridge is in uptime. But then if VR also becomes the B project of duff/matt etc then it could just become impossible to schedule...especially if they get Corey as well.

Re: DUFF MCKAGAN Talks To KERRANG! About New LOADED Album, VELVET REVOLVER
Maybe Slash just doesn't rate Corey, it could be that simple.
maybe Duff and Matt are going for the 'star power' option again and Slash isn't biting because of Scott.
It could be any number of things as you guys already said.
If Slash II doesn't sell well with just Myles on vocs things may change.
Honestly, I think Slash II will be a much smaller event than Slash I and VR may suddenly spark into life again but that will be 2013 which Matt has already said even he won't wait that long for.
VR RIP? Looks like it.
