Phil Collins Reportedly Retiring From Music Due To Health Problems
by Access Hollywood
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Retirement may be beckoning music legend Phil Collins to its paradise..
The 60-year-old musician reportedly plans to end his music career due to hearing problems, a dislocated vertebra and nerve damage in his hands -- all caused by a lifetime spent hunched over a drum set.
"I don't think anyone's going to miss me," he reportedly told FHM magazine in a recent interview, according to the UK's Daily Telegraph. "I look at the MTV Music Awards and I think, 'I can't be in the same business as this.' I don't really belong to that world... I'm much happier just to write myself out of the script entirely.".
The former Genesis frontman, who has sold over 150 million records, reportedly plans to focus on raising his two sons, Nicholas and Matthew
"I'm not worried about not being able to play the drums again, I'm more worried about being able to cut a loaf of bread safely or building things for my kids," he reportedly told the mag. "My doctors tell me it's a work in progress, that it will take about a year for me to recover.".
As for his inspiring percussion performances, Collins said, "I don't think I'll ever be able to do that again."
Re: Phil Collins to retire due to poor health
Even Collins himself seems to think that he wasn't all that, telling FHM, "I'm sorry that it was all so successful. I honestly didn't mean it to happen like that. It's hardly surprising that people grew to hate me."

What's up with that? I see a mention about him breaking up with a wife via fax, but I don't think I've heard any noise of people hating him. The guy was a hit machine for a long time. He put out some great music.

I think what he means is where he got so overexposed in the 80's, both solo and with Genesis, that by the 90's Phil Collins became a bit of a punchline, like to poke fun at the 80's, kind of like disco in the 70's.
Phil also couldn't take a joke, which hurt him taking it the wrong way. I remember hearing how he was hurt by the 'Phil Collins mountain' and Phil Collins schtick that was done on South Park, yet what he never understood was it was meant as a tribute.
If anybody took it too seriously - it was Phil.

Wow.
Hope this doesnt' sound out of line but his words sound quite depressed almost..maybe it's just humilitiy though...but the way he's minimising his achievments.
Sounds like his health problems are quite serious...hope it sorts out and he can enjoy his retirement.
Best wishes to him and thanks for the music.

Fuck man that's so brutal the more I think about it. Sucks getting older that's for sure. Best of health to him for the future.
