Re: Slash @ Soundwave Festival Australia!
Great review Monkeychow!
Yeah that's alway the dilemma with wanting to get close and enjoy watching the guitar heros craft, balanced against copping drunken people going nutso!
Just on that, as you are looking at the stage Slash usually is positioned on the right isn't he? Thought I would ask in case I decide to get up close and personal at Soundwave on Monday.
Re. the "and" "or" BBF comment, I completely concur. I am an "and" person, I can appreciate both. Do I have preferences for what I would like to see in an ideal world - yeah sure. But I'm not going to let that prevent me from appreciating good music and having a good time.

I've done the pit and battling front row many times, and I'm with you Axlin08, I'd rather sit back in the comfort of a seat these days. Great write up Monkey!

Yep spot on - seems to be have his set up on the right as you look at the stage or the left if you were him and looking out.
Here's something interesting that happened that I forgot to mention. In like Ghost...slash's strap broke. He didn't miss a beat just hoiseted the tar onto his knee and flug the strap off. Myles noticed it happen and gives the tech at the side of the stage a "help him" look....tech runs out and attaches a new strap to the guitar while slash is shredding out the solo...gets it on...and slash wanders off around the stage again....all without missing a single note....

yeah me too. I've been thinking about it more and it really seems like that's the most logical way to be. I mean we all have stuff we'd prefer - for guys like russ it's that Robin was in the band I'd guess, and for some it's slash, others miss bucket, others love the new guys most and so on. But surely even the 'wrong' combination is still better than most non-gnr stuff. You know like I prefer Axl singing them to Myles - but myles is still pretty great compared to the non-gnr bands. And that's why i dont get the slash hate at HTGTH and places...like I can understand that maybe they like bumble and dj most...but even so...surely slash is closer to what they like than like justin biber or whatever. hahah. I just think as a fan base we need to unify.

Re: Slash @ Soundwave Festival Australia!
Oh and while i'm updating with bullshit.
Forgot to mention...some fuckwit threw something direct at the stage..right as slash happened to take a couple of steps closer and it hit him direct in the head/chest...looked like an orange or something...but it didn't seem to phase the man at all...kept right on playing like it didn't happen. Tougher than me. lol.
Aussie when you go...allow plenty of time for stuff. Long line to get an "over 18" wristband to buy booze. Longer time to buy booze tickets ($10 for a beer or beam). And longer line again to redeem the tickets. God help you if you want to buy food or take a piss. You're looking at at least 45 mins.
Also keep in mind they call it scene-wave for a reason too...all the little kiddies like to come....i think it was them to turned the slash mosh into something you'd expect at slipknott.
I think overall i prefer seperate shows to festivals, while the party atmosphere is fun, between the clashes, cancelations, timetable issues, venue sound mix, long lines, fans of other bands causing trouble and insane prices for food and drink and short set times...it's just not the ideal way to see these bands.
That said...it's still totally worth going and I had a great day. Now i just have to wait for a7x to come here to make up for bailing on this show.
Re: Slash @ Soundwave Festival Australia!
im jealous, i missed slash when he came this way. and i have yet to see stone sour
as for the nearness to the stage thing...i prefer general admission but i have come to the realization that general admission is for the younger crowd... when i saw stp last year or the year before it was hell...it tough to stand tough in there with people year years your junior...i eventually had to move back
