MIKE PORTNOY's THE BEATLES Cover Band Announces New Shows - Jan. 10, 2011
After having had such a fun experience the first time around in 2003, drummer Mike Portnoy (ex-DREAM THEATER), guitarist Paul Gilbert (RACER X, MR. BIG) and guitarist/keyboardist Neal Morse (ex-SPOCK'S BEARD) will reunite asYELLOW MATTER CUSTARD once again to pay tribute to their greatest influence of all: THE BEATLES!
Due to a scheduling conflict (and further fueling the "Paul is dead" rumours), original YELLOW MATTER CUSTARD bassist Matt Bissonette is unable to join the band this time and will be replaced by UTOPIA legend Kasim Sulton.
The setlist for these dates will be all new without any repeats from the 2003 shows.
Feb. 25 - Long Beach, CA - Art Theater of Long Beach, CA
Feb. 27 - Chicago, IL - [to be announced]
Feb. 28 - New York City - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
YELLOW MATTER CUSTARD in 2005 issued a live DVD entitled "One Night in New York City". Recorded live at New York's B.B. King Blues Club & Grill on May 18, 2003, the set sees YELLOW MATTER CUSTARD performing some well-known BEATLES songs such as "Nowhere Man" and "Revolution", as well as more obscure tunes like "I Call Your Name", "Think For Yourself" and even a hilarious rendition of the "Let it Be" b-side "You Know My Name".

Have any of you heard James LaBrie's new solo album Static Impulse? It's frickin' awesome!
I think it's better than the last few DT albums. Mainly because LaBrie focuses on just greating good little rock songs instead of requiring every DT song to be prog-rock and requiring it be 19 minutes long. The album can have a tendency to get a little Killswitch Engage in places, but if you're into that - you'll love it. My favorite track on the album is "I Tried".

AVENGED SEVENFOLD Taps Former CONFIDE Drummer - Jan. 20, 2011
AVENGED SEVENFOLD has tapped Arin Ilejay, former drummer for Los Angeles-based Christian rock group CONFIDE, to sit behind the kit for AVENGED's upcoming tour dates in support of the "Nightmare" album.
AVENGED recruited ex-DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy to play on "Nightmare" and take part in the band's touring activities in 2010 following the death in December 2009 of the band's drummer, James "The Rev" Sullivan. Portnoy was Sullivan's favorite drummer.
Commented AVENGED SEVENFOLD: "We recently asked several friends who knew Jimmy and his style, and also knew our music and each of our personalities to suggest drummers to tour with us starting this year. Our longtime studio drum tech Mike Fasano recommended Arin Ilejay.
"We've rehearsed with Arin and have been impressed with his technical skills, attitude and work ethic.
"We're very excited to tour with Arin and hope all of you will give him the warm welcome to the family we have."
Ilejay is featured on CONFIDE's full-length debut album "Shout The Truth" (2008) and he performed with the band during the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, among others.
Sullivan was found dead in his Huntington Beach, California home at the age of 28.
Sullivan's death was attributed to a lethal combination of several prescription drugs, including OxyContin and Valium, with alcohol.
The drummer died just before AVENGED SEVENFOLD was to begin recording its fifth album.
The disc, titled "Nightmare", came out last summer and was AVENGED SEVENFOLD's first No. 1 record.
Portnoy was dismissed from the group in December.

Dream Theater still unable to announce new drummer
With work on the new album well under way John Petrucci says he’s bursting to tell fans and that they will not be disappointed

Dream Theater: A big kit to fill
As reported recently on Blabbermouth, Dream Theater’s John Petrucci is excited about the new album, new drummer and up and coming World Tour, but frustrated that their hands are tied in being able to let fans in on the news. In an announcement Petrucci said:
“First I’d like to say that my love and support goes out to all of our friends in Japan as they work through the tragic events of the past week. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. I know that the strength of the Japanese people will prevail.
“As for the new Dream Theater album, it is going incredibly well and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it! We are in the tracking process and working hard as well as just having so much fun.
“I appreciate everyone’s patience regarding the announcement (or lack thereof!) of Dream Theater’s new drummer. I know it has been very frustrating to have to wait for the news. Believe me, we are bursting at the seams to tell everyone and rest assured that our decision will not disappoint on any level!
“As for info and details on the new album, anything such as the title, song names, running times, artwork, direction etc, will be posted on the official Dream Theater and Roadrunner sites once the album is complete and we begin to prepare for its release.
“Looks like the start of our next world tour is lining up nicely as well. It’s always great to be over in Europe during the summer playing out doors and seeing all of our friends again.
“In the meantime, I’m just shredding, lifting and buried deep in the making of the new album. My beautiful Music Man’s and Boogies are raging and there are many notes flying around the studio!
“I hope everyone is well. Thank you so much as always for being such amazingly supportive friends and fans!”
Speculation still rages on fansites regarding the identity of the new drummer who remains cloaked in secrecy despite the fact that the band has been rehearsing and writing with one drummer for the past few months.
A hatful of names have been thrown into the ring since the departure of Mike Portnoy to Avenged Sevenfold, whom he has now parted company with, even spawning a facebook page dedicated to the speculation
The band’s first live performance with the new sticks man will be at High Voltage Festival in London on July 23
