Re: Slash @ Soundwave Festival Australia!
Slash is playing at the various Soundwave festivals around the country at the moment, so I figured it would be cool to start a thread regarding his set lists etc
He plays in Sydney tomorrow, which I'm going to, and this was his set from Brisbane today:
Ghost
Mean Bone (Slash's Snakepit)
Nightrain (Guns N' Roses)
Rocket Queen (Guns N' Roses)
Back From Cali
By The Sword
Sweet Child O' Mine (Guns N' Roses)
Slither (Velvet Revolver)
Paradise City (Guns N' Roses)
Hoping they mix it up a bit, but if they don't, that's still a solid set for the time slot they've been given

Yeah i'm excited for this too! Looks like a pretty short set - they should totally let him play longer...my work is making it real hard for me to leave that day too which is going to be hard given he's playing at 5.20pm...but i'm going to have to find a way!

Re: Slash @ Soundwave Festival Australia!
Got back home not long ago, Slash was awesome, and played pretty much the same set list as Brisbane. There was very little banter or bullshit between, just straight into one song after another, which I guess was to take advantage of the short set time they got.
Slash looks fitter than ever, his face has aged, but his body looks like back in the UYI days, probably ever fitter!
And the band was flawless too, Myles hit every note, Slash played every solo note for note, but the crowd mostly responded to the GN'R stuff best. And even then, when SCOM started, there were some kids near me chatting away near the pit, and I was thinking "have some respect for your rock elders!" lol
And yeah, the festival chicks were great to look at too.
Quite a few bares breasts in the crowd when the headliner's, Iron Maiden, played.

Re: Slash @ Soundwave Festival Australia!
Awesome...sounds like a good time to me!
I had a friend tell me "It was basicly a VR/GNR cover band" - lol not sure what else he expected slash to be? hahah. And that works for me!
Sounds like a pretty good set list to me, I'd prob swap mean bone for sucker train blues ideally but it's pretty good. Actually ideally i'd like them to break out like Dime Store Rock from snakepit 1 but that aint going to happen.
I'm pumped up for friday now!
What other bands should I try and see. Did you see Stone Sour?

Re: Slash @ Soundwave Festival Australia!
I'll just add my two cents about Corey Taylor / Stone Sour as well.
I'm not really familiar with Stone Sour's music, I know of them, but haven't listened to them much, not properly anyway.
I thought they were ok performance wise, they were a pretty tight unit, and Corey sang well, but as far as stage presence goes... I thought he was REALLY lame with most of the banter after each song. He'd either say fuck every second word, or try to justify to the audience or reassure himself why they were there playing.
He asked the audience if they have the new album at least 3 times, which I know they were there to plug, but he overdid it. And the absolute lamest comment he made was at the end in reference to his hair looking dorky because he was growing it out again, and was going through the awkward in-between stage.
But he said something like, "I know you guys (the audience) are thinking it" and he was just explaining himself and his reasons for his hair looking bad. I truly doubt anyone thought about it until he actually brought it up.
It was the single dumbest comment I've heard from a front man.
If he's really gonna front VR, don't talk, just sing. Way too embarrassing!

Re: Slash @ Soundwave Festival Australia!
That is odd.
I dont actually know stone sour either. I have a mate that loves Slipknott...i like a couple of their tracks with badass drumming but the general growl vocals tend to turn me off. I was thinking of catching the SS set in this just to check him out to see how VR mighr be with him...but it sounds like he wasnt in form!

Re: Slash @ Soundwave Festival Australia!
Don't get me wrong, Corey sang well, very well in fact. But as far as commanding a crowd, he was terrible. At least that's the impression I got from him. Just very try-hard. Which considering the power he has with Slipknot, was quite odd. Maybe being behind that mask he's more comfortable as a front man?
Myles was a welcome change from him, completely humble, and completely genuine in the way he spoke to the crowd.
Corey was just embarrassing...
I actually tried to picture him as if he was fronting VR, but he was talking to the metal masses at Soundwave like complete idiots, like "if I just yell FUUUUUUUUUCK really loudly, I'll win them over"
