They probably work at Wal-mart or at your local gas station.
We pirate so much music that the record companies can't afford to take chances on anything that's too far out of the mould.
This leaves artists to break out on their own, but it's pretty hard to earn a living from live shows at start up stage with no backing unless you get lucky.
So they quit the music business and now work in normal jobs.

If the real rockstars didn't make it, they're either in jail or fuckin' dead by drug OD or suicide.

The answer is - there are none.
No one takes risks anymore.
Have a guy like Adam Lambert front Shinedown, then call me. He's the only guy that i've seen that has that rockstar-vibe.
He just can't catch a real fire of popularity.
Adam Lambert? Give me a fuckin break.
Lady Gaga's the closest thing this generation has to a "rockstar." No rock bands have any really stand out people.
