i have a epi lp standard, sounds mint without even changing pickups...just go to a shop and plug in an epi lp standard, plug it in and play it...you could always swap out the hardware later if you still decide you want to

schecters are ok, but if you want an LP just go get the epi...i made the mistake of not getting an lp and it drove me nuts until i could afford to upgrade

i could play a bit and upload a vid or mp3 if ya want to get an idea of tone and whatever with the factory pickups in it

They all look sweet. I'd go for the epi in wine red myself. To be honest, the Slash guitar would be my first choice, but if I were playing out and about like you do, I'd be too self-conscious about the wanna-be Slash vibe. Not saying you're a wanna-be, just sharing my own personal psychosis. smile

Epi Les Paul Standard Wine Red

be warned that all LPs sound, feel and play differently

the studio is different than the standard and both are different from the customs, and the ultra is different again...then guitar to guitar they are different. like one lp standard may feel different than another

the standard i have is a heavy solid thing, but the tone is awesome as is  the sustain, you play a powerchord on my guitar and it rings out forever

I have the Slash Epi...plays great.  I really love the neck on it.  My experience with them is great, but like Neemo said, every guitar is gonna feel and play different. I think your best bet is to go to Guitar Center, play all the guitars you're interested in,and just pick the one that feels and plays the best(to you).

I'm thinking about buying a 12-string guitar. (I have one, but that was really for trying out this type.) A Japanese Ibanez Artist 2602 caught my eye. It's from the 70s, when they really made great guitars. Anyone has played it? It'd cost a bit less than $400.

Here's the guitar:

Can't see those links here for some reason. But I gather it's Epi vs Slash Epi.

I think most of the major points have been said....you'd be paying an artifical mark up for the fact it's a sig model..which is especually odd given you arn't much of a slash fan. Then again...if it's right it's right, who cares who else uses it. The sig issue could also help with resale if you choose to upgrade in the future. Although I tend to keep guitars until they're destroyed anyway.

Neemos comments are spot on.

I think there's a strong variance between all Gibsons/Epiphones models, and a massive amount between models of the same exact type. So you play one les paul standard it can feel awesome, and another can be bland. For example I have an old Epiphone Standard that feels better to my hands than an actual gibson I own. But then i've played other Epis that felt like shit. And i'm sure if i played 10 gibsons some of them would be amazingly better than others.
