SLASH Storms SUNDANCE FESTIVAL With SLASHER FILMS - Jan. 20, 2011
Slash — the iconic, Grammy-winning rock guitarist — is heading to the Sundance Film Festival this weekend to announce the upcoming films on tap in 2011 and beyond for Slasher Films. Slasher Films is the horror film production company formed by Slash in partnership with Michael Williams and Rob Eric of Scout Productions. On Sunday, January 23, Slash will hold a press conference and party at the House of Blues in Park City, Utah to discuss the exciting film projects heading for production this year.
Renowned in the music field, Slash has jumped head-first into Slasher Films, adding a producer cap to his extensive entertainment resume.
After searching through hundreds of scripts, Slash, Rob and Michael collectively read and agreed upon a handful of scripts that they've now added to their slate.
"We're looking forward to getting up to Sundance to connect with like-minded directors and writers that share the same passion and nostalgia for quality horror and suspense films that Michael, Rob and I do," explains Slash.
Slash opened up in a recent interview with ARTISTdirect about Slasher Films. Although a press release was issued about the new venture last year, Slash has not spoken publicly about it until now. He explained, "I'm friends with Rob Eric, one of the guys at Scout Productions — the production company responsible for 'Transsiberian', 'Session 9', and a bunch of other really cool movies. He and I were sitting around one night talking about horror movies . . . He called me up the next morning and goes, 'We should do something like Slasher Films. You can look at the scripts and produce movies with your own label and we'll fund it.' I was like, 'Okay! It sounds awesome.'"
Slash, who says he is a huge horror film fan, estimates that the company will produce two to three movies a year.
He said the films will be "really high quality, very character-driven, and insanely scary horror movies. They're not going to be scary in the sense that you're waiting for a monster to come out and cut off someone's arm. They're going to be psychologically scary and intense. They'll hearken back to those great movies of the '60s and '70s and even way before that."
The first film under the Slasher banner, tentatively titled "Nothing To Fear", has yet to surface. Slash told ARTISTdirect that the company has interest from other studios and production companies.
Scout Productions has been behind TV series like "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" as well as film projects.
Slasher Films is a film production company specializing in the horror genre. Founded by Michael Williams and Rob Eric of Scout Productions ("Session 9", "Transsiberian") and iconic rock guitarist Slash, the company's goal is to produce edgy, slick, low to medium budget original character driven horror films reminiscent of the visionary horror fare of the late 1970s and 1980s. The horror genre has been dead for years, and isn't coming back anytime soon with the fraught business model for major studios.
Yeah I know, "you gotta check out the stuff out of Asian"... I just don't see it. Even they are copycatting shit they did 50 years ago.
Just stick to watching White Zombie and Night of the Living Dead in your basement.
