i just don't like his hair is all.
Re: Velvet Revolver's Matt Sorum Remembers Early Days, Looks Forward
Sounds like their expectations are too high again. That was kinda their fault with Weiland. A known frontman, decent voice, terrible songwriter & couldn't write epic lyrics. They should just get someone mellow & sing a quasi roots/rock Wilco style Adult Contemporary decent album. They're looking to rewrite a smash album full of hits. The bands "fame" is done, they need to get past that.
I'd like it to be Chris Robinson, my guess would be Kid Rock, my fear is it's someone even worse.

Chris Robinson would be killer. They should get his bro, too and say goodbye to Dave.

God I hope it's not kid rock...i've tried to like him but I just don't seem to.
Re: Velvet Revolver's Matt Sorum Remembers Early Days, Looks Forward
On second thought Kid Rock is doing well on his own, so he's doubtful imo. I suppose Myles Kennedy would be my guess. Which can be summed up in one word to my taste:
ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Again, my fear is they're looking for someone to skyrocket them back into superstardom. It just ain't happening. I don't care if Eddie Vedder quits Pearl Jam & sings. The album ain't selling much more than Libertad or Slashs solo effort. They need to get over it & just put something together on their own artistic integrity, like a Traveling Wilburys thing. No plans on taking over the rock world & stadium tours.
Yeah, definitely need to 86 Dave, he wasn't helping out much. Izzy back & singing would be badass. Who gives a f**k if they don't tour. I stand firm that Robinson would be a good, solid choice. In all likelyhood ain't happening. Unfortunately.

Re: Velvet Revolver's Matt Sorum Remembers Early Days, Looks Forward
Kid Rock would be an even bigger joke than Sebastian Bach.
Why would sebastian be a joke? He's one of the strongest frontmen out there and he's still got a hell of a voice.
While he is famous to the mainstream folks for that 80s sound ('I'll remember you' etc), Slash and co are generally remembered for Sweet Child etc.
So i'm guessing your going to say picking him would doom the album to a retro vibe, and while it might to some people, Angel Down was a good mix I thought, like retro enough that if you want old school Baz he's there, but new and heavy enough to be pushing him forward.
And amongst the rock scene I think Baz actually has a bit of cred as a vocalist. Although I personally prefer Axl (love Baz too though) i've met a number of people here locally who felt his peformances opening for GNR out gunned Axl...especially in 2007.
I guess it depends what people want. I think libertad and to a lesser extent contraband showed people want 4/5 of GNR to behave like GNR and not try and be a grnuge band or a modern band or whatever.
I mean no one wants them to forget what year they are in either, abd go full cheese, but I think they've got to that phase where they are famous for a reason and they can embrase that. They're fammous for the GNR classic rock type sound...and that's the exact style of guitar slash belts out but with a real strong high register vocalist - much as Baz can do.
Like Ac/Dc - no one wants them to change their style anymore it's great as is. I think that's why slash's solo tour is so kickass - he's doing what people want - he goes out and plays the stuff people remember him kicking ass at - as well as rhe new songs and it does well.
So I dunno, in one respect people would view them as from the 80s, but they already do, and the fusion of two 80s forces, Skid Row and GNR could be a selling point with the media. Sort of like that expendables movie, on one hand the 80s action movies were a bit cheesy, on the other hand, Stalone, Arnie, Dolph Lundgren and all those dudes in the one movie made people notice it.
Anyway, it won't happen I think firstly because I think Slash feels Baz is too one-dimensional, and they are self concious about converting GNR into skid row. And i'll grant vocally baz has a distinctive sound. Secondly because Baz likes heavier music than VR these days...he's getting more metal and less rock with each track. And thirdly because of the politics, Baz and Axl are real tight and I think Baz would see it as insulting to Axl. But those things aside, I actually think they could make a great album together.
Kid Rock on the other hand, well, I'm yet to be convinced.

I dont get the baz bashing really.. That Frameshift shit was wicked sick and Angel Down, while only 50% of tracks I listen to, I do like that 50%. for me, lately, thats quite a good score from an album.

Yeah I think their best bet is actually not to attmept to do that. I think most of the sucessful acts from GNR's era at this point stoped trying to be releveant to new stuff and just do what they like. Bands like metallica, and it seems to be working for them.
They need to get over it & just put something together on their own artistic integrity,
Yeah i think that could be awesome. One thing I liked was Slash's solo album - how he actually sounded like slash again - something that was mostly lacking in Libertad (some cool moments aside). Riff and solo wise I think Slash is back on game...so to me if they can find a singer that gels well with that...and make the kind of album they're good at classic rocky stuff - it would kick ass. Sure it may not top the charts with the newest blackeyed peas tracks or whatever - but it will get a lot of respect in their genre and i think bring them a sustainable level of momentum and success.
Izzy back & singing would be badass. Who gives a f**k if they don't tour.
Well there's two problems with that...firstly....financially...in these days of piracy..the tour is going to be where the band gets paid rather than the record. So if Izzy is recording kickass records but not hitting the road, they're not going to recoup easily.
Secondly, I think Slash exists to tour. It seems the whole point of making a record to him is the touring and playing live. No way he's going to be in a band that's studio only.
Re: Velvet Revolver's Matt Sorum Remembers Early Days, Looks Forward
Baz is a joke in the US because of all the cheeseball reality shows he's done here. For instance, just recently he did that goofy Oregon Ducks song on Jimmy Fallon. He's closer to fronting Adler's band than Slash's.
