Have to say, Matt sounds like he's grown up a lot to me. I like what he has to say, he sounds like a straight ahead guy.
I want this band to get it right this time. For me, there was always something that would make me think 'damn, if I was their manager I would not allow them to do that'..
To me, ALOT of that changed in 2006 when it hung out with Axl and put to rest alot of the past.
He seemed to be much happier and laid back with himself since. It could've been anything in his life, but i've just noticed that change...

True. I can imagine being described as an employee of the band during the entire UYI era must have pissed him off rightly. I think Matt worked very hard for those years (and was fucking WELL rewarded) but to be wiped out of history like that must be a bitch.
Axl seems to have a talent of really getting to musicians that piss him off, right where it hurts!!

Why? He's always seemed pretty good to me...that YCBM beat really makes the song....that alone gives him street cred to me.
Although if there's ever a GNR reunion I hope Adler gets to play also, cos I feel he deserves that much, but Matt's always been pretty solid on the drums I thought.

YCBM is one of the best rock songs n that intro is fking magic but he's a jerk. he's one of the jerkstores all time best sellers. & he didn't play on Civil War! never forget!

I don't see what makes him a jerk, he seems like a straight up guy, he just speaks his mind. And he's a solid rock drummer.

The hate for Matt comes from in his post-GN'R days, he used to be a douche to fans, and also pretty fucked up with women backstage. Bri referenced that time Matt forced the mother & daughter to have sex, so they could hang out with him, or however it went.
I don't really care, they were already fucked up, but Matt seemed to enjoy taking advantage of people and his bandmates.
I think he's mellowed now, which is why I kind of give him a pass, but I think the Matt hate comes from alot of that stuff in the 90's.

Yeah I remember that story.
Matt's love of groupies was a tension between Scott and him in VR too. Scott apparently didn't approve but it seems women are matt's vice, just as drugs are scotts.
To be fair to Matt, i think he told the story originally when asked what the most fucked up shit he'd ever done was. And i think most 80s/90s rockers would be able to give you fucked up stories if they were honest about what goes on.
I have a metallica dvd where a CREW member talks about how he fucks women to give them access to the band. He pulls out a metallica branded drum stick, holds it to the camera and says something like:
"If they can take the stick all the way to the logo, then they get in"
or something similar...and that's a guy in the crew....have a guess what the famous dudes are doing once they get bored with 5 women at a time 
On one level it's probably wrong and an abuse of fame and so on, but at the same time I'm not going to be the one throwing any stones at Matt or the others, I think if i was in their shoes I'd probably be making them look like they're in sunday school.

Axl had some pretty shitty stories told about him with girlfriends and groupies, so did the rest of the band and they escaped the hate. Matt was just far too smug for years but I think he has grown up and gotten a level of maturity about him now.
People can change.
