Soundgarden is dead in the water. He ain't writing anything with them, or they're just gonna dust off stuff in the vault, but that whole thing seems to have died, kind of like the Faith No More reunion did.

SOUNDGARDEN made its first national television appearance in 13 years on November 9, when the band performed on the second episode of Conan O'Brien's new nighttime talk show on TBS, "Conan".

SOUNDGARDEN played two songs on "Conan": the recently released 1991 studio cut "Black Rain" was broadcast on the show, while the track "Hunted Down" — SOUNDGARDEN's very first single, released in 1987 — was posted online only.

SOUNDGARDEN has played just a handful of gigs since reuniting in early 2010, including a headlining show at last summer's Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.

The band has yet to announce any full-length tour plans.

SOUNDGARDEN released a CD/DVD retrospective set in late September called "Telephantasm", featuring singles, album cuts, live material and the previously unavailable "Black Rain".

Looks cool, but it's a shame these tracks are from 1996 and not the recent reunion shows.

I'm praying these guys turn it around this year, but so far, nothing they've done really required them to reunite.

NOT impressed. Only semi interesting thing on this is getting to hear Boot Camp live. Big whoop. It's amazing the lengths they will go to not to unload the B sides/covers/demos/unheard songs. Fans were barely interested in Telephantasm and its only real selling point was Black Rain. Hardcores don't want a live album and you cant push a live album to a casual audience.

It's time to go balls deep into that vault or fuck off....

by all accounts the b-sides album is a certainty this year James ... however...i already have most of their b-side/rarities worth a shit (ok, not all but a good deal of it), so im hoping and praying they are working up a new album which some sources have suggested they are

agree though, I have almost zero interest in a live album at this point

They're staying away from it for three reasons

1) They know it's not near as deep as they've cock-teased for years.
2) Like Chinese Democracy, it's the only 'interest'-card they have to play after the reunion was met with a lukewarm reaction
and 3) They're holding on to it tight, because they KNOW they aren't writing shit now or anytime soon.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I got a bad feeling about this. I hoped these guys would come back and shove REAL grunge down the throats of these pussy post-grunge modern rock fans of today like Alice In Chains did, but instead we've gotten alot of "one foot in, one foot out" with these guys, and I guarantee you it's Cornell that's sandbagging it. How do I know? Gut feeling.

This live album comes across as keeping the back door light on for the brand name.

SOUNDGARDEN's 'Live On I5' Cracks U.S. Top 50 - Mar. 30, 2011
SOUNDGARDEN's first-ever official concert album, titled "Live On I5", sold 11,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 47 on The Billboard 200 chart. The set is compiled of live tracks from a 1996 West Coast tour by the band and is named after the Interstate 5. SOUNDGARDEN had intended to release the tapes of these shows as its first live album shortly after the tour, but the group ended up disbanding and the tapes were left in the studio, untouched for years.

Although the band has played just a small handful of shows since reuniting in January 2010, singer Chris Cornell told The Pulse Of Radio that more live work is on the way. "There's nothing concrete, but we're definitely talking about all that stuff," he said. "We're definitely gonna play more, we're definitely gonna do more stuff. There's no question about that. We didn't just reform to play one show and put out a best-of and walk away. That's not what's happening."
