Re: Trent Reznor to score "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" film
Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has been tapped to compose the music for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," the upcoming film adaptation of Stieg Larsson's best-selling book, following the success of his Golden Globe-nominated score for "The Social Network."
Reznor will reunite with longtime songwriting partner Atticus Ross for the film, which is being helmed by "Social Network" director David Fincher. During an interview with the New York Times' TimeTalks series, Reznor revealed that the "Dragon Tattoo" score would rely more on string arrangements than the electronic-leaning music of "Social Network."
"We started recording things in a different way that was all based on performance -- nothing programmed," says Reznor, who has completed two hours' worth of music over the past month with Ross. "That would be my limited skills with stringed instruments... We'd process them in a way that really gave it an interesting, organic feel that felt like something we've never done before."
Reznor also discussed his contributions to a forthcoming How To Destroy Angels record, which he has been working on with his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, and Ross over the past six months. After the group released a six-song EP last year, Reznor says that a full-length will be "more like a substantive piece of work."
While Fincher's adaptation of "Dragon Tattoo" is set to hit theaters this Christmas, Reznor could be honored for his "Social Network" score this Sunday (Jan. 16) when the 2011 Golden Globes are handed out.
