Re: Damien Echols from the West Memphis Three Interview
If not him, call Desmond Child or something. But Axl needs some help on the next album imho.
i don't mean to be rude, but this is one of the very, very worst suggestions i've ever come across in GnRland.
the lyrics of CD are generally a lot more obtuse & abstract, less coherent & immediate but christ on a stick give me Prostitute or Better over You Give Love a Bad Name or Bad fucking Medicine any goddamn day of the week.
roping in a(nother) mercenary like Child, aside from being completely pointless, would be a disasertous step BACK to such an extent it'd be an even worse crime than the reunion..
i think there's a lot of Axl's work on CD that is as brilliant as anything he did on UYI or AFD. there is a depth & magnitude to a lot of CD's songs that are Estranged worthy. i do concede that the lyrics on CD aren't as immediate or conducive to sing-alongs like SCOM or NR or even YCBM but they do have an intensity & scope that is as fine as anything ever put out under the GnR name.
Desmond Child.... ugh, man seriously?! that guy is one of the very very worst! he's one of the main reasons bon fucking jovi suck so much donkey cock. cartoon pop rock is his game. Axl's got a lot more to say than that hack ever could imagine or dream let alone write.
Re: Damien Echols from the West Memphis Three Interview
I actually like most of the Desmond Child songs I've heard from Bon Jovi and Sebastian Bach's "Falling Into You" was a catchy tune as well. BUT, I agree, I wouldn't want him coming within a 5 mile radius of GNR when it comes to song writing, because there's that stigma and obvious cheese factor. So I agree, terrible idea. And I don't think the song writing/lyrics were all that bad on CD. So it's a bit premature to say that Axl has all of a sudden "lost it" (at least when it comes to song writing).

Yeah I think Desmond is an incredible songwriter...he's written a lot of hits....but I disagree that there is anything wrong with the Chinese Democracy lyrics. Very much so...it's a great album lyrically IMO.
Re: Damien Echols from the West Memphis Three Interview
You guys DO Realize that Desmond Child has consulted Axl on future Guns N' Roses songs, right?
They are currently sitting in the vault. They just didn't make CD.
So whatever you don't like about it, get to liking it, because down the road you're gonna see some GN'R tunes with "Child" on them - it's already happened.
I mean I don't know the extent of Child's involvement, but there was an article a few years ago that stated that Child was consulted. Whether on CD or other songs.
I've looked all over for the article, but that's actually the only reason I mentioned Child's name, was because Axl already called him.
Note: I don't care for Child's work for Bon Jovi at all. But I did enjoy his work on Ratt's Detonator (1990) and Aerosmith collabs quite a bit.

I recall that was when Ax moved to Curt Cuomo's studio in early 2004. Child happened to be there recording, but didn't work specifically with Axl.

i call bullshit. if you are gonna make claims like that and try to state them as fact, back it up. where's the article? and some bullshit post by losers in some thread is not proof.
Axl's writing is incredible. D. Child is a hit-maker. he's a very talented writer of easy listening music that appeals to the masses. he's a record company's wet dream. he works for artists who have little artistic integrity - artists who are more interested in making money than creating true art on their own. he represents everything that's wrong with rock n roll. instead of musicians making music to the best of their abilities, we get manufactured shit.
Re: Damien Echols from the West Memphis Three Interview
there are some good songs...and some not so good songs in his resume

You know as well as anyone that a LOT of GNR articles have vanished over the years.
I'm still amazed at sic being able to compile that Chinese Whispers section.
sic, you remember anything regarding Axl and Desmond Child? If so, remember the source?
