Guns N’ Roses named hennemusic’s Rock News Artist Of The Year

Music fans have named Guns N’ Roses as hennemusic’s Rock News Artist Of The Year.

“Guns N’ Roses consistently made headlines throughout 2010, which kept hennemusic readers coming back for updates on the world according to Axl,” said Bruce Henne. “Fan interest in classic GNR remains huge, as even the mere hint of a hint of a reunion of the original lineup is enough to send shockwaves around the planet: fan reaction to Duff McKagan playing with Axl in London in October was over the top.”

GNR took the honor ahead of Steven Tyler, Pink Floyd, Metallica and Van Halen.

Winners of the hennemusic Rock News Awards are chosen by readers – rock fans around the world – who voted with their most valuable resource: their time. Categories are tabulated by page views in a salute to the artist/fan relationship.

hennemusic Rock News Artist Of The Year
    Final Results

    1 – Guns N’ Roses
    2 – Steven Tyler
    3 – Pink Floyd
    4 – Metallica
    5 – Van Halen

Guns N’ Roses toured throughout the year, which would normally make for headlines on its own, but the “Chinese Democracy” tour may ultimately go down in history as the show that never starts on time. Ask fans at the Reading Festival, where GNR’s set was cut short; ask fans in Townsville, Australia; ask fans in Dublin, who pelted the stage with bottles, prompting Axl to remove the band from the stage for an extended delay, which sent even more fans heading to the exits.

I saw the GNR tour here in Toronto in January, and the band didn’t hit the stage until almost 11:30 p.m. Sure, they played a full set, but to an ever-shrinking crowd, as many fans had to leave to catch the last rides on public transit around 1:00 a.m., so they could get home and to work the next morning. It makes you wonder how many fans, who only got half a show, will shell out cash the next time GNR comes through town…only time will tell.

Steven Tyler was named runner-up for hennemusic’s Rock News Artist Of The Year. The American Idol issue and how it played out through the year with his Aerosmith bandmates – and other rockers – kept Tyler’s lips on everyone else’s.

Pink Floyd’s “mini-reunion” for a private charity event in July raised fan interest to new levels, just weeks before Roger Waters kicked of his tour of "The Wall" to packed houses across North America.

Metallica’s fan base is so intense that the band continued to draw huge attention even as their 2 year-old “World Magnetic” tour was winding down, down under.

And Van Halen? Another year without new music and very little to say, while fans anxiously await – and debate – VH’s first new music with David Lee Roth in 14 years, and first album with him since 1984.

This month, fans took part in the 2010 hennemusic Rock News Awards poll to guess who they thought would win Rock News Artist Of The Year; here’s the results of the fan poll:

    1 – Van Halen (26%)
    2 – Guns N’ Roses (21%)
    3 – Pink Floyd (18%)
    4 – Steven Tyler / Metallica (16% each)

Thanks to hennemusic readers for their ongoing dialogue, encouragement and support; onwards and upwards into 2011 !

As far as GNR goes, not enough news happens in the band to even place them in the top 20 of such a list. The top spot is laughable. The other artists don't belong on the list either.

I can just imagine their 'Most Irrelevant Artists of the Year' list...

1. Eminem
2. Lady GaGa
3. Katy Perry
4. Kanye West
5. MGMT

Well taking a quick glance at the guys site, he's an old school rock fan, thus no contemporary pop acts would come close to making any of his lists.  He's obviously a huge GNR fan, he's got Slash, Duff, GNR related links to stories on the site, along with other classic rock acts.  In that case, his list makes perfect sense.

*Slaps own wrist* I almost always provide source links with my posts here. Several have been from this same site. I Assumed the context would be obvious.

In any case James your such a Guru! big_smile
