You're living completely in fantasy world if you think the band is famous. Axl is famous. That's it. Nobody would pay a dime to see these guys without him.

Aye! Tis why I posted this. The links all refer to the original website and has links to "live video" once clicked only redirect to more text. Im also unshure if its an actual studio or even the Coke reference meaning blow or the softdrink.
Yeah the article was confusing, although a great find.
I checked out wikipedia it says:
Coke Studio is a Pakistani television series featuring live music performances. The program focuses on a fusion of the diverse musical influences in Pakistan, including eastern classical, folk, and contemporary popular music. The show provides a platform for renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream artists, from various genres and regions, to collaborate musically in live studio recording sessions.
Season One premiered on June 8, 2008 and included a live audience. Season Two premiered on June 14, 2009 without a live audience, eliminating the associated background noise and providing a more intimate atmosphere.
Video and MP3 files for each song are available for download on the Coke Studio website after each episode airs, along with additional material. The videos are also available on Youtube.
So, I gather from that it's basicly a live gig on TV with optional ability to release the gig digititally (sort of like an itunes live session) and sometimes they have people colaborating/guesting with each other.
Sounds like it could be pretty cool. Ever since NIN's "The Slip" came out with a bonus rehersal dvd - of trent's band rocking out in a little rehersal space, I've always wished that GNR would do some kind of intimate live video too...this could be the type of setting for that to happen.

It really has nothing to do with the name - well, very little at least. The band is not famous anymore. It just isn't.
Maybe this is getting into symantics...but to me it's because GNR is so famous that things are how they are. It's because of fame that you can swap out band members and still play big festivals and arenas. It's because of fame that you can not release an album in a decade and then get an exclusive distribution deal. It's because of fame that you can not tour the usa and still be ranked 30th biggest tour in the year.
Keeping it real here, my band is not famous, GNR is famous...to be honest I can't even believe you're saying otherwise. Is the fame less now than it was in 1991 - sure - i'll accept that. Does the fame mean every punter knows each band member's individual name - nup. So they could be more famous, but at the end of the day, they're playing massive gigs worldwide as GNR, when I tell someone I'm going to see GNR people know what i'm talking about...that's fame.

How is he a parody of himself? He can't parody what he's always consistently been, and that's a true, honest - realist.
It might be an uncomfortable opinion for the fan boys - but it's true. As soon as their home country said - "fuck off" - they lost all credibility. Axl continues to drive it further into the ground with his lack of balls to release new material.
They're no different than White Lion right now, just that fact that the world loves Axl alot than he deserves.
I say that with all due respect. Release some albums, or just continue to be more of a joke with every passing second.

They are no different than White Lion? You gotta be kidding me! They wouldn't even fill a club here! Who the fuck is White Lion? I've never even heard a song from them. Just know they are a semi famous rock band who got into a fire in a club in NY. Whatever.
What I meant was, every time something comes up with GNR news which is slightly positive, one or two jumps on board with the same old phrases.

When he might put up a fight, the re-run comes again "sorry to break it to you poor lad, but GNR doesn't exist, Axl is in a mental hospital, DJ is annoying and GNR couldn't sell more than 100 tickets in New York. I'm fully aware of all of your theories and arguments and agrees with it half the time usually, but jesus fucking christ. Do try to put up something every once and awhile that doesn't include comparisons to semi known rock bands or other negative posts that would most likely make Jarmo dissolve like a vampire exposed to the bloody sun.

How is it doom & armageddon? There's nothing to destroy, because they have nothing. They are fake nostalgia act. There's nothing to lose. It was lost in 1996.
It's re-run heaven baby, because THAT'S THE WAY IT IS. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. They are a traveling re-run, except instead of getting classic Happy Days with Richie, Potsie, Ralph Malph & the Fonz, we get Happy Days in the end with the Fonz & Ted McGinley. Welcome to current-GN'R. A band that just plays the same songs over and over and over, and without the people who wrote them - even the CD songs.

I thought 2010 tour was a lot of fun, a great year with an intact band, great communication between us and many band members. But little did I know. Thanks for putting it to me straight. I must be a fan boy.
