Re: Bon Jovi, AC/DC top concert draws in 2010
When you conisder all the negatives though, like not the original guys, only one album in 15 years, crap promo during that album release, no usa tour, it's actually quite a positive result to be top 30 world wide I recon.
Re: Bon Jovi, AC/DC top concert draws in 2010
the top 3 earners should tour together & call the show 'walking with dinosaurs'.
This is pretty funny attempt at a "shit" considering you're a hardcore supporter of Guns N' Roses which is essentially a cover band who's been doing nothing but nostalgia tours the last decade living off a dinosaur of an album (AFD). At least the dinosaurs you speak of release new albums consistently that go #1 and release top singles for the most part. Plus if there's a abnd tat doesn't go through the motions and try to live of their prehistoric material it's U2. I just fidn it funny that had Gn'R been at the top it'd be way fucking cool but since it's three other bands from Gn'R's heyday those bands are dinosaurs

True. but to be a complete asshole(which I'm gonna do) I wonder how much the name Guns N' Roses plays a part in that success. I swear it's a subconscious mental thing. "Guns N' Roses" are touring so let's go see them. If it was a new name or simply "Axl Rose" I'd bet my last dollar the drawing power of this band would be cut in half. Mostly cause they havent been productive at all album wise.

I think there is an element of truth to that...although at this stage I don't think anyone still thinks it's slash and co. EVERY bit of publicity I saw in the media about the aussie tour mentioned explicitly that it was just Axl from the old band, and most of them also named the new bandmates.
But I still agree psychologically, I think it's just the branding helps....you use the phrase GNR and people remember their teenagehood or whatever when they listened to GNR and their interest is sparked. I mean people go see Slash because he was in GNR, and likewise, I'm sure even billed as WAR or whatever a ton of people would see Axl for the same, but I think having the brandname speeds up that process - and it also gives you a certain amount of security that you'll get the hits.
Know what I mean? Like you see prince - and you might get the songs you grew up with and you might get a jazz jam all night.
I guess i mean like...if I buy a ticket to see Bon Jovi i'm going to expect a decent amount of the hits will be played, whereas if I went to see an apperance of Jon even with the other guys in the band billed as something else, well i'd be less sure...it might be all new stuff. So I think the GNR billing reassures the crowed that even though its a new band, they know what to expect in the setlist. I think it's just brand power. I'd buy a coke before I'd buy the same drink in a no name label.

That's terrible for the band - Guns N' Roses - which used to be a bigger act than Bon Jovi.
If you wanna look at it as 'Axl Rose solo', then yes it's pretty good. But the reality is it's not, because he hides behind the name.
Re: Bon Jovi, AC/DC top concert draws in 2010
GNR's lack of North American popularity cost them on the concert level....
I knew it'd bite them in the ass. They're missing ALOT of coin in the states - their home country.
they're missing a handful of cash but overall it i think it probably would have lowered the average attendance figures, which r already p low, for the tour if they'd hit the USA in '10..

Yeah...well I guess compared to 1991 or whatever it is. Like for GNR's history it's a low result, I just mean like, to keep perspective this is a list of the top bands in the world, so like a bad result on this list is better than most musicians do in their whole lives. But I understand what you mean. At the end of the day GNR was a far better band than Bon Jovi...back in the day...so that it's wound up this way is wierd.

Richie Sambora Opts Out Of Bon Jovi Tour

Bon Jovi will continue their American tour without lead guitarist and founding member Richie Sambora.
Sambora has opted out of the current tour and checked himself into rehab.
The band issued the following statement: "Our support for Richie is absolute. He is, and will remain, a member of Bon Jovi. Although he will be absent from upcoming shows for the time being, we very much look forward to his healthy return. In the meantime, we will keep our commitment to our fans and continue our tour."
Bon Jovi’s next show is tonight (Saturday, April 30) in New Orleans. A replacement for Sambora was not announced and Richie is still very much a part of the band.
Bon Jovi had the highest grossing tour in the USA last year. They clocked up $201 million in ticket sales. Richie Sambora last checked himself into rehab in 2007.
It is not known when Sambora will return to the band.

This is a really strange situation.
Given they made $200 million last year you think they could just take some time off to let him hit rehab.
If they aren't replacing him for good, then in their situation I'd have thought doing shows with a temporary guitarist would only weaken the band image overall and make those fans feel a bit ripped off worse than if they just reschudled.
Just seems wierd. Like i get why guys like Adler had to be replaced while the band was up and comming, but Jovi is famous now for good, and with $200m in the bank - a couple of months off wouldn't do too much harm you'd think.
