Meh. Just a hired gun parroting the latest talking point. Means nothing. He wouldn't even know it was happening anyways, and pretty much admits he knows nothing.

It's funny how the reunion situation is now causing people to paraphrase Henley/Frey remarks about an Eagles reunion.

What's really funny is how DJ can do an interview like this, admit, like you said that he knows nothing, yet the nutswingers at "places" in the GN'R fan world are still convinced...

"this is a band"

14 - Yeah right. It ain't been a band since 1991.

I actually felt uncomfortable FOR DJ reading this. He sounds like he's Axl's newest girlfriend, and he's clearly much more naive than I would have expected to keep opening these cans of worms on himself. I had hoped Ron would have taken him aside by now and talked some sense into him.

From my point of view the guys that play are the band. It takes a tight band to pull off GnR.

Not to say they run GnR.
More a band behind Axl. That has writing ideas that will make the basic future music (if any) that Axl crafts whatever way he sees fit. Just as GNR has almost always been. A quick view of any GNR record lists writing credit. Some have no mention of Axl even thought he obviously had to approve and add his vocal style.

Ax spoke of pre CD writing credits with the formula Slash came up with gave AXL around 60% writing credit.

On AFD it was more basic to credit everyone. so everyone "could afford a house"

Make no mistake they are a band and a great one!
As was the band that toured CD pre-release.
As was the band that toured UYI
As was the band that toured AFD

In other news: I sat on that picture about 2 weeks without somewhere to drop it. It was on a foreign web. I wondered if anyone knew about it. If its not an edited piece then?  Seems to suit as the Jokers Joker in this interview. It can be view as the card that never gets played in GnR,  or in some poker the wild card can stand in anywhere. Obviously if it is unedited then its pre GnR. I would like to know the history of the picture if anyone has any insight.

A band for me is when people form up and play music. So, GNR is a band. In a band you need someone singing, and someone playing a bunch of instruments. That's a band. If they play to an audience then good for them, but if not, they're still a musical band if they gather up and play in the singers basement. It's not more difficoult than that. All the rest is baggage.

these guys DON'T gather up n play in the singers basement which is why they're less of a band. they don't collaborate 2 write songs so they're only a touring band - & that's a hell of a difference from what GnR apparently were when they were making their most enduring music. it's maybe baggage but it's valid, emoshunally invested baggage that's nah easily forgotten..

Plus the majority of this "band" are playing songs they didn't even write.

That's the reason cover bands have never been taken seriously, and I don't see any reason why new Guns should be spared the same criticism.

Performers, yes, band, hardly.

They don't play the songs they wrote for the most part, but it takes a band to play the songs, therefore...a band.

Anyway, if I see another discussion regarding "cover band", "hired guns" or "old band vs new band" I think it just might push me over the edge of sanity. It was a lot of fun for the first 10 or so years, but I'm getting a little bored of it by now.

They're out there playing songs and I truly can't be bothered to give any more shit than that. The rest is baggage and I'm over and done with thinking about it. Just give me a beer and get Axl and the boys up on stage and I'm happy.

You know, people would stop posting things like that if people would stop reacting to stuff like that.  Just an observation...
