New Material

Guitarist Kim Thayil says it’s almost inevitable that Soundgarden will write new music.
Speaking to Toronto radio station CFNY-FM, Thayil spoke about the new Best Of and their reunion, then noted that the classic grunge act will be writing new music.
Blabbermouth reported that he said, “When we get together to rehearse, it's natural for us, being guys who have a rapport, to start jamming and inventing. We've come up with instrumental, and certainly on occasion, lyrical ideas.”
Thayil was fairly coniditonal, but he seems to think that the band will inevitably record.
“I'm not confirming anything,” he continued, “but it's impossible for us to get in a room and not come up with ideas. It's very likely in the future, perhaps sooner than later, we'll get together and de-emphasise the rehearsing part and emphasise the jamming part."
Any new material would be the first for the band for 15 years, since their final album Down On the Upside.

Re: New Soundgarden Interview
They are waiting too long to do anything. By the time they do something again most of the world will have forgotten about them again. Our attention spans have shrunk drastically.
Oh, but Cornell has temporarily moved back to Seattle. They have an apartment there and are setting everything up. That's good news as well. It will hopefully make things pick up their pace.
Chris Cornell’s mother in law Toni posted this on Twitter:
Just became a resident of Seattle!:) The apartment is beautiful and the view is wow!!! Just arrived kids love it!!!:)And no rain!LOL
Love Seattle! We all had a great time together lots of fun trying to finish our apartment & of course our christmas tree will be up soon!:)
Cornell’s mother in law lives with the family, so the Cornells are definitely living in Seattle right now.
Re: New Soundgarden Interview
Like saikin said, this activity better happen at speeds reminiscent of 1994. If not, its gonna sink like the Titanic. Cornell moving to Seattle is good news but means very little. He can leave quicker than he arrived.
Honestly I consider it a step back. They went from always talking about a B Sides collection and a possible new album to just the possibility of a new album.
Something needs to be on store shelves within six months or you can stick a fork in this band.
