Re: GunsNRosesNews RUMOUR. & THEREFORE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A PINCH OF
Considering what kind of an effort from the artist/band it actually takes to be a bestseller in this day n' age. And knowing that a major label really have to make it a top priority. I doubt very much that we will see GNR on top of the world again.
The huge variety of music now available due to digital download has almost wiped out (new) stadium-rock-acts.
The time and money to spend on an artist or band are now spread thin over an endless sea of acts.
As long as a new GNR album sells well enough that they can keep going, it's fine with me.
The majority of the record-buying public have also moved on from the hardrocking late 80's and early 90's.
Rappers or clean-cut artists are now the "voice of the youth"

As far as your Queen comparison goes, I think that's a pretty good assessment of the situation. Obviously the main difference in Queen's case was that the actual band was still together instead of just Freddie with a tribute band backing him.
IIRC Queen did come close to breaking up in the 80s, around the time of Freddie's solo album - 'cause Brian and the rest of the band were annoyed that he was holding back songs for his solo project rather than recording them as Queen songs, or something. Ironically, it's pretty close to the Chinese Democracy situation, except Queen managed to pull things back together.

Given history, I guess that means it won't sell.
Chinese wasn't even close to promoted right. So there's no history to show it wouldn't sell if it were promoted right.
I think his point was that history tells us that a new album won't be promoted properly. And I can't really argue with that, the way things have unfolded since CD's release. It seems that things would have to change drastically between the band, management, and label for things to move in the right direction.

I am gonna go out on a limb and say Buzz meant that there will NOT be a great single AND it will NOT be promoted right.
I was mostly referring to the lack of promotion, but you are correct, I do not think there will be a great single either.
There may very well be a great song on the album as there was with CD, but it will not be a single. Very few people thought that there was a better song than TWAT on CD. It was as close to a universal agreement as there is in the gnr world. Why should I believe they will pick the right song next time? And if they do, is that another indication that CD was sabotaged by Axl and not by Azoff or whoever else he's blaming?
Re: GunsNRosesNews RUMOUR. & THEREFORE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A PINCH OF
Very often labels usually don't release THE best song as the 1st single.
Took a while for Estranged to be released. Sure, that was way back then, but I'm pretty sure that strategy has stood the test of time.
Not so sure about the universal agreemant on TWAT being the best song. There's a poll going on over at HTGTH and This I Love is in the lead. TWAT is 3rd.
Re: GunsNRosesNews RUMOUR. & THEREFORE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A PINCH OF
one concern i have about the new material is: axl has said something like if people thought CD was complex then the other stuff is gonna be even more shocking (or something along those lines), but if axl can't sing TWAT or Prostitute how's he gonna deal with the unreleased stuff if it's even more complicated??

When you're trying to make a statement that you're back, you have to put your best foot forward right away. The interest was already there. They needed to seize the opportunity and they didn't. You can build if you're new or you've stayed around. You can't if you've been hiding in a cave in Malibu with your thumb in your mouth.
