Norwegian TV show "Lydverket" (web site) aired a mini-documentary about the deaths of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott (PANTERA, SLIPKNOT) and Paul Gray (SLIPKNOT). During the eight-minute segment, which can be viewed below (with English subtitles), Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, HELLYEAH) and Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT, STONE SOUR) spoke openly about how they dealt with the losses of their bandmembers and friends, and in Vinnie's case, his brother.
The interviews were conducted on October 30, 2010 before Vinnie and Taylor were due to go on stage at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, England with HELLYEAH and STONE SOUR, respectively.
While Taylor used concerts as therapy and as a tribute to Paul Gray, Vinnie Paul said he didn't know if he would ever go on stage again. "I lived inside a bottle of vodka for eight months," the drummer told "Lydverket".
Asbjørn Slettemark, who hosts the "Lydverket" show and conducted the interviews, says he was moved by how both Paul and Taylor spoke openly about the tragedies in their lives.
"We're so used to seeing our favorite bands really confident and cool on stage, but to me it says volumes about Vinnie Paul and Corey Taylor's greatness that they can share these painful memories, and hopefully their stories will inspire people to keep on living and fighting after such tragic incidents happens."
"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was co-founder and lead guitarist for PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, Dimebag and his brother Vinnie Paul formed DAMAGEPLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by Nathan Gale. He was 38 years old.
Gray's body was found on May 24 in a hotel room in a Des Moines, Iowa suburb. A coroner ruled that the 38-year-old musician died of an accidental overdose of morphine.

Re: VINNIE PAUL, COREY TAYLOR Open Up About Deaths Of DIMEBAG, PAUL GRAY (
I'm not the biggest fan of Vinnie Paul. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Pantera, and I could not even begin to imagine what it would be like to watch my brother shot dead in front of me.
The thing that I don't like is (IMO) it seems like Vinnie has kind of capitalized on Dime's name. He's released that Dime clothing line, and he's done various endorsements under Dime's name. It just seems kind of wrong.
Also, I hate that he won't talk to Phil. If you watch the Behind the Music, you can see it written all over Phil that he's really fucked up, but Vinnie still won't have anything to do with him. I obviously didn't know Dime personally, but the impression I get is that he would've been the type of person that would've wanted everything patched and mended.
That's just my 2 cents. Don't flame me.

I always thought it was ironic that Vinnie bagged on Phil unmercifully for some magazine articles before Dime's murder...
YET, the only people who have made a virtual career and beat into the ground for sympathy Dime's murder has been Vinnie.
If anything, fucked up or not, it's made Phil alot better in that situation than he did a few years ago.

Exactly. Vinnie and that broad that claimed to be Dime's girlfriend have cashed in big time on Dime's death. I say claimed, because I saw an interview before his death where he called her a childhood friend.
Who would've thought that Phil would be the biggest person?

Phil seems to have straightened his act up over the years and seems dearly sorry for things he said about Dime before his death, which he said was in a fucked up state of mind. Vinnie just seems like a prick for not wanting accept his sincere apologies.
I think it would be healthy for Vinnie to forgive Phil and for them to patch things up, regardless of whether they ever make music together again.
It's almost like the Ax/Slash debate.
I wonder if Axl would ever change his stance if Slash was killed in a similar situation?
Re: VINNIE PAUL, COREY TAYLOR Open Up About Deaths Of DIMEBAG, PAUL GRAY (
Vinnie needs to grow the fuck up. First off, go back to Dime's death. They wouldnt even let Phil pay his last respects to a guy he bled and sweated with for years. Left him hanging by the phone in a hotel in Texas. All over a fucking magazine interview that some of it was more than certainly taken out of context. And Rita(Dime's GF) needs to shut her mouth. It's not her place and it never was. Let her cash in on her "love's" death by making another clothing line. Vinnie has issues bigger than Phil. He went as far as to say Rex was just there for the ride cause he was playing in Down with Phil. Here is a guy that was there practically from the beginning. But Vinnie feels the need to peg him down for his friendship with Phil. It's little children bullshit.
Dime would have wanted peace. If you watch the home videos you would see the LOVE Phil and Dime had for each other. It makes me fucking sick that Vinnie turned into the biggest douche bag of all time.
Re: VINNIE PAUL, COREY TAYLOR Open Up About Deaths Of DIMEBAG, PAUL GRAY (
yeah vinnies kinda been gay lately...it was appearing that he was been using dime as a cashgrab in the first 2 or so years after the shooting
dimevision, Rebel Meets Rebel, Selling solos to Nickelback and stuff...i mean its always cool to hear dimebag and i'm sure that was his motivation was to get Dime's music out there for everyone to hear but after a while youre like C'Mon Man
Re: VINNIE PAUL, COREY TAYLOR Open Up About Deaths Of DIMEBAG, PAUL GRAY (
i agree, Neemo and BLS-Pride... 100%
You would think he would cut the shit already. The ignorant fucking redneck bullshit is seeping out of his skin... If Vince and Rita really wanted to cash in with some integrity, instead of plastering the Dimebag name on ridiculous shit, or starting some shitty southern fried nu-metal band, they would A. Make nice with Phil and Rex, instead of ignoring their existence... and B. dig into the Pantera Live archives and start releasing the enormous amount of live shows that were recorded. Professionally....
I was extremely disappointed with the live stuff they chose to include in the CFH reissue... I've heard 90% of it before. Pantera's REAL legacy was their live shows and their bond with their life long, die hard fans. That's how their reputation was built. They boasted for YEARS about how they recorded EVERY SHOW. Where is the Pantera Live Box Set? Some FULL SHOW dvds/CDs?
You really want to showcase Dime's brilliance and versatility ... Don't give me snippets of him onstage when he was 19... They literally had a video camera rolling at all fucking times...how about some videos of them writing/recording VDOP or FBD....
All I'm saying is... They could cash in AND showcase the brilliance/beauty of Darrell and Pantera, and not look like douchebag assholes in the process...
