The video for POISON singer Bret Michaels' cover version of SUBLIME's "What I Got" can be viewed below. The song comes off Bret's latest solo album, "Custom Built", which sold 22,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 14 on The Billboard 200 chart.
In an interview with PopEater.com, Michaels stated about his cover of "What I Got", "That's one of my favorite songs; it just puts me in a great mood. I love hearing that song, so I busted it out live, and I thought I did a really respectful version of it. I wanted to keep some of what the song is, but I added some of my own lyrics and a cool breakdown to it. We played it live and it went over insane. It's been one of my favorite songs since the early '90s."
Michaels' yet-to-be-titled country solo album is scheduled for release in early 2011. The record continues to draw and expand on Bret's vibrant country rock roots and will very much appeal to fans of such acts as KENNY CHESNEY, KEITH URBAN, TRACE ADKINS, SUGARLAND and more.

Sublime is the shit man. There are a lot of tools that like them but that's only cause they heard "Santeria" and nothing else. Great band and def not a rock band or even close to one. They were a different animal and Bradley Nowell was a very talented too.. oh and fuck bret michaels.

I heard this a while ago. I don't really like. Possibly one fo the worst covers I've heard. But that's ok. He's a big fan of the song and he's stated it's one of his favorites songs ever so covering it is cool even if it missed the mark. reading the comments on youtube makes me sick though. bunch of pretentious losers who think their taste in music is better than everyone else and only assholes could possibly like this. God I hate music snobs.

I never got into sublime but knew the song it was always on the radio. Im not saying the cover is gonna reinvent the wheel but it had a fun feel and kinda worked for me.

I've always loved Sublime. They've always had a douchey, frat-boy following, but I don't really think it's right to judge a band by who listens to them.
I think Michaels' version is more of an insult to the original than anything.
