Re: DjASHBA Gonna try to stream live (soundcheck)
so performing the national anthem is a stunt now? It can't just be looked at as something cool. Unreal. Slash did it, it was cool. DJ did it it, was cool. Zack Wylde did it, it was cool.
Gimme a break. If Axl showed up to sing anthem at the Super Bowl people would think it's cool as fuck don't even deny it. All sorts of musicians, professional and non professional have been asked to do this and have taken the opportunity to do it. It's a huge honor. Some of you literally make no sense sometimes. That or you cling way to much to your ideals of what it means to sell out.
Of course. I'm not sure why some people have a problem with people performing the National Anthem. I just don't get it. I would flip my lid if Axl did it. It would be AWESOME!!! But it will most likely never happen. Again, it's an HONOR to perform/sing the National Anthem. It certainly shouldn't be viewed as some publicity stunt.

I don't know where people read into what I wrote that I had a problem with it. I just thought it was funny that DJ has taken Slash's spot in GN'R and is now doing these kind of sporting gigs like Slash went on to do.

^ Himself perhaps?
Dj ASHBA™
I think that answers my question...

Of course not! That's just silly-talk!
Performing it before dinner on a special occasion amongst friends and family (or something like that) is not a "stunt"
But doing it like this, imo it is. The organizer of the event gets a little extra "show" out of the event. A celebrity performing the National Anthem draws a larger crowd. Which, if repeated again and again, in the end generates more $$$.
The performer gets their image out there, which if repeated again and again generates more $$$.
Just because hiring celebrities to do the National Anthem have become a tradition over the years, doesn't make it any less of a financial publicity "stunt".
All sorts of musicians, professional and non professional have been asked to do this and have taken the opportunity to do it.
Proves only that people love to make money. Shocker!
If Axl showed up to sing anthem at the Super Bowl...
I would feel let down and disappointed that my favourite artist that in my mind have, over the years conducted himself in a manner that would indicate that he would rise above an easy way for some "air time"...

Complete and utter nonsense, bordering on nauseating pretentious bullshit. Now I've heard it all. Somebody always performs the national anthem at professional sporting events so I guess we've got people being "sellouts" every single game. You'd be let down if Axl performed the National Anthem.... Riiiiight Next you're gonna tell us you'd be heart broken if Axl sang "Take me out to the ball game" at a Cubs game. My God dude if you think performing the anthem is a cheap and easy way to get some air time why do you even support the band? You obviously have no desire to see them do anything. If you'd be let down with a performance of the national anthem I can only imagine how devestated you'd be with a late night talk show appearance or an SNL appearance or a Super Bowl half time performance. Also if you think having DJ or Slash or any celebrity perform the national anthem at an NFL game generates more revenue by drawing a larger crowd you are seriously dellusional. You honestly sound like tired old cliche when it comes to this stuff. Oh Naltav wouldn't want his favorite artist's integrity jeopardized by performing the national anthem at a public event. It's ok though to do so in the company of friends and family? Again Who the hell sits around their living room performing the national anthem dude? The national anthem has long been a public performance. Honestly some of the shit you come up with...... I don't get it at all.
For the record seeing Axl sit at a piano singing the Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl would be cool as hell.

Re: DjASHBA Gonna try to stream live (soundcheck)
Personally I like to see the band getting air time.
Although it's a different beast to the original GNR, I think the modern band is damn good. Axl's still got it..and they sure have some serious guitar firepower up there these days. I also like chinese. And I dunno...i think if more people were exposed to this band more frequently good stuff would happen. Hey, it's the delays and silences we dislike isn't it? Stuff like this is good because it shows the wheels turning.
Maybe someone at this gig hears DJ nail that anthem and they go check out Chinese Democracy and the band gets a new fan. They go to gigs, they buy merch, and that pays for the next album and life goes on.
He's playing his instrument, so I'd say he's integrity is intact. Not like he's out there pimping toilet paper on an infomertial. He's a guitarist and he's playing the guitar. Of course there's a promotional aspect to it, but that's what professional musicans do. It's part of his job. Its a good thing for GNR not a bad one to me.
Re: DjASHBA Gonna try to stream live (soundcheck)
I've heard the argument, mostly from Howard Stern, that having the National Anthem performed at sporting events is a little odd. But it's been tradition since WWII, and it's not going anyway anytime soon. Again, I see no reason to get upset for the people performing the Anthem. If you want to get upset at WHY they perform it in the first place, that's a different argument. But they do, therefore they need people to perform it, eg. DJ Ashba, etc.
Re: DjASHBA Gonna try to stream live (soundcheck)
^^^ i agree! My son plays football. He is 6 every game we stand up, face the flag, put our hands over our hart and pay respect while someone sings ! This at a pewee game! In a pro areana why not have pro musicians perform?
