So... DJ stepped into Slash's spot in GN'R, now he's out playing the National Anthem at sports games like Slash does too?
they also both have a deal with Monster ! lol i use there cans as bookends.

You guys realize musicians from all genres, generations, talent level, promoting or not, get asked/do the National Anthem at sporting events?
Why do it? Oh, I dunno, you are honored to do the song because, you know, it's the NATIONAL ANTHEM!
Slash didn't invent guitar players doing the anthem. Get a grip.

Exactly. It's a HUGE honor to be asked to perform the National Anthem. I've had a few problems with some of Slash's decisions over the years, but playing the National Anthem was never one of them. The one thing I may have criticized him for in relation to performing it though, and I have to say the same to DJ, they should both have removed their hats when performing. Although I noticed a few of the photographers didn't even remove their hats. Maybe that practice isn't followed quite as closely these days.

I'm not bitching about it, but it's not as though DJ announced the tour is actually happening, or that the SixxAM record is coming, before or after his solo spot. I just found it odd for him to be out there

Usually when Slash does it, he is out there promoting something (like his recent solo album). I was just questioning what DJ was actually promoting, if he was promoting anything?

Since they announced him as the "lead guitarist for Guns N' Roses" and the LCD screens around the stadium said "Guns N' Roses", I'm assuming he was there to promote Guns N' Roses.

so performing the national anthem is a stunt now? It can't just be looked at as something cool. Unreal. Slash did it, it was cool. DJ did it it, was cool. Zack Wylde did it, it was cool.
Gimme a break. If Axl showed up to sing anthem at the Super Bowl people would think it's cool as fuck don't even deny it. All sorts of musicians, professional and non professional have been asked to do this and have taken the opportunity to do it. It's a huge honor. Some of you literally make no sense sometimes. That or you cling way to much to your ideals of what it means to sell out.
