DEF LEPPARD singer Joe Elliott was in Glasgow, Scotland Saturday night (November 20) at the Nordoff Robbins Tartan Cleft Awards, where he collected on behalf of the band the 96.3 Rock Radio-sponsored Services To Rock Award.
After what Joe referred to as a rather "head-swelling" introduction by longtime LEPPARD supporter/rock radio DJ Tom Russell, Joe spoke highly of the two gigs DEF LEPPARD played at the Glasgow Apollo back in 1979 opening for AC/DC, and then "ticked off another box" by playing two songs with THE SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND — "Boston Tea Party" and "Anthem" — which went down an absolute storm. Also collecting awards were Paulo Nutini, —Amy Macdonald, THE BLUEBELLS, and GALLAGHER & LYLE. It is thought that the ceremony raised over £150,000 for the charity. The guitar Joe played during the show is to be auctioned off and features many celebrity autographs, including those of Joe and Phil.
Nordoff Robbins is a music therapy charity, grounded in the belief that everyone can respond to music, no matter how ill or disabled. The unique qualities of music as therapy can enhance communication, support change, and enable people to live more resourcefully and creatively. DEF LEPPARD is only one of its patrons — others include David Bowie, COLDPLAY, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian May, PINK FLOYD, Sir Cliff Richard, Sting, and many more.
