SLASH's Next Album To Feature MYLES KENNEDY Handling All Vocals - Nov. 21, 2010
According to SundayMercury.net, Slash's (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES) next solo album will feature ALTER BRIDGE frontman Myles Kennedy handling all the vocals.
Kennedy has served as Slash's touring vocalist for the past several months, leading to speculation that the guitarist may try to recruit Kennedy to front VELVET REVOLVER — which is something that Slash has denied. "[Myles] is still committed to ALTER BRIDGE," Slash told BostonHerald.com. "I don't want to be the guy responsible for breaking up a band. But we'll find someone. Maybe not somebody known, but some kind of local hero."
Kennedy had actually been approached to sing for VELVET REVOLVER back in the early days of the group, and again after they parted ways with Scott Weiland, but turned down the offer both times.
Slash told The Pulse of Radio that Kennedy will still tour with the guitarist next year, even though ALTER BRIDGE's new album has just been released. "We have it set up so that he does ALTER BRIDGE 'til January," he said. "And then we start up January through May or April. And then he does ALTER BRIDGE from May through — into July, and then we do July through August, September. And so we're just juggling. And then during those periods that we're off, I'm doing VELVET REVOLVER and hopefully we'll find a singer and get that together."
When asked about his collaboration with BLACK EYED PEAS singer Fergie (a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson) on his recently released first true solo album, simply entitled "Slash", Slash told SundayMercury.net, "To many people, Fergie wasn't an obvious choice for me to work with. But, you see, I just knew she had a dynamite rock and roll voice. I'd heard her doing a rock medley at a BLACK EYED PEAS gig, and she was belting out the lyrics. I thought: Hell, yeah! After that I did a bunch of gigs with BLACK EYED PEAS. They were including [GUNS N' ROSES'] 'Sweet Child O' Mine' in the set, and you should have heard her sing that. I think she's the best woman rock and roll singer I've heard in the last 20 years."
Professionally filmed video footage of Slash's (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES) performance at this year's Summer Sonic festival — which was held August 7-8, 2010 in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan — can be viewed below.

I also have a love/hate relationship with Myles. I love him on low notes, but think he's pitchy and nasaley on high notes.
I don't really see where Slash solo w/ Myles is all that different from VR.

^^^ same here but I do hate to parrot on any thread. Myles has a great voice. Just not what I want to see with slash. I still prefer him to Scot.
hmm... Slash + one singer for solo record = New Snakepit
VR is old GnR demos - Axl & Izzy + some singer= Hope for better vocals on the classics & new material
Myles pre Slash
Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge has a staggering 3 octave vocal range. Understand that he is a tenor which is why his lows may not sound as low as someone like Johnny Cash. But his highs are... well... high!
The songs with there lowest and highest notes are as follows:
Open Your Eyes - A2
Burn It Down - C3#
12/31 - D5 to F5
Big Verb - B4 to D5
Sick and Wrong - D5 to C5
Lyla - C5 to E5 to D5
Find the Real - G4# to B5 to C5#
Save Me - B4 to D5
Ties That Bind - A4 to C5 to D5
Coming Home - D5 to C5# to D5
Summergirl - D5 to F5# to E5 and down

I'm really excited that they will work together again, as they seem to love to play together and it can inspire writing a lot. But I'd want some fellow bandmates there, not some Josh 'I only want the cash' Freese-type of session musicians. People who can create, at least their own parts, cause Slash's solo album really lacks a good rhythm section, and a complementer second guitarist, too.
I'd also like to hear some other singers with Slash, but I think that'll happen on his third solo record - which will come out sooner, than the third VR.

LOL at the Velvet Revolver mention. I'm pretty ambivalent to Myles, but I can't imagine he can constantly be touring and not have some issues with his voice/throat. That seems like a very stressful schedule he'll have.

^ Exactly...it's insane for him, like a year of slash tour he's just done, straight to alterbridge tour, straight to slash, back to alterbridge, back to slash? WTF.
This also further's my "someone in VR doesn't like myles" conspiracy theory. Like why couldn't he join VR and just balance that around alterbridge like he currently does slash's solo tour. Not like VR is currently even active. Only difference is Matt and Duff and Dave would also be there when he goes on the road with slash in between alterbridge tours. Doesn't make sense. Given everyone in VR (well, duff, matt and slash anyway) all have their own side projects anyway, I don't see why alterbridge couldn't be kept.
Anyway, I'm pretty into the idea of new music from them, myles has a great range for slash's songs I think, I dug his two on the solo album, and i'd love to see him handle some heavier songs.
As for him being pitchy on the high notes, I think it's just that his vocal tone is very different from Axl. Like he seems to hit the notes just with a totally different feel, which does sound wierd on those GNR tracks, but I think works well within his own songwriting (eg starlight, alterbridge stuff etc). I'd love to see a new myles/slash album...hope it has some heavier numbers!
