Maybe, but I think it's got more to do with DJ being out and about right now during his off time, like the Call of Duty: Black Ops launch.

Ron went home to relax and hang with local musicians, Tommy went and saw some shows, Richard, Frank & Dizzy probably went and saw family, Chris who knows and Axl never talks, unless TMZ bumps into him.

I think it's just coincidental that DJ is making the rounds.

Funny how this part hasn't gotten much attention.

Yep.....a HUGE roadblock considering the obvious hostility that Axl has towards the label. From my understanding, Chi Dem was a joint venture between the label Geffen and Axl Black Frog. Thus, both parties have to approve of the release of any new material. Good luck waiting on that.

We've yet to get in a room and write as a band - know DJ mentioned something about a new album, but don't want y'all expecting anything soon - other than old unreleased Chi Dem songs, songs need to be written, jammed, recorded, tweaked, re-worked, re-recorded, mixed, re-mixed, mastered, re-mastered, art, new art, label approval, a game plan from the label that Ax approves.... not as simple when it's on such a big scale...

Thanks for the info Ron. I knew there was a reason I wasn't excited about Ashba's comments about an album.

Like Madagas said, Ashba needs to just stay silent on GNR news and continue promoting his other crap. Even the nerds don't buy the bullshit anymore, and the rest of the fans aren't interested in another CD merry go round.

Only talk about an album when its time to release one. If that's 5-10 years from now, then so be it.

Those songs will likely be released in the interim of putting together an album with the new band.

I cant even picture that happening. In 2006, Dizzy admitted the band hadn't even been together since the day that 2002 tour imploded. Every year since Ron has been in the band, he's admitted that they have not been together to record anything.

That's eight years where nothing happened but a couple guitarists going into a studio to strum a guitar and one drummer goes in to pound a drum on songs that existed for almost a decade.

The current lineup is more than likely just a touring lineup.

While all that might be true the songs are already done so its a mute point.

I think it's inevitable that eventually there will be new music of some kind, but yeah, it's not something i'm expecting to happen on any time soon.

Thanks Ron for the tweet, he is probably just helping to save DJ from copping a lot of flak if things don't go as expected.  Plus it's nice of him clarifying those things for the fans.  Presumably he reads threads like this one at various sites and felt the need to clarify.

If we want to hear new music soon then I think the best we can hope is that Axl retweaks the exsisting material he has (had for years) and maybe gets DJ and any other current member who isn't on the tracks to add some stuff.

If it's a brand new album from scratch, as others have said, that could take an eternity.  It must be frustrating for these guys that want to write new music together as a collective.  Even if they were just brought on with the understanding that they are touring players, as musicians the desire to compose new material together must be hard to surpress.

Re: the label jab, are we EVER likely to see Axl agree to a game plan from the label?  I have often wondered whether they are still even on speaking terms.

Which is sad, because all it shows is that Axl has no faith in the new band to put together a quality product. Not to slight the new guys, but sometimes I wonder if Axl would have more faith in GN'R to put out new music had he kept Slash, Izzy & Duff.... he just doesn't want to fess up.

The whole attitude about the band and it's future completely changes, if for just a fleeting moment, when one of the old guys shows up. It happened in 2006 with Izzy, and it happened in 2010 with Duff.

I don't think anything will EVER come from it, i'm just saying people "light up" about the possibilities, not of a reunion tour, but of a new album, for whatever reason, when those things happen.

It blows my mind why certain fans are anti-reunion, because they believe the new band is gonna bring them a new album quicker. Huh? What evidence exists of that? All i've seen is that Axl has seemingly had no faith in himself since 1991 to put together quality material. As soon as Izzy walked out that door, and the dynamic of the "big four" writers in the band was disrupted. Axl lost all faith in GN'R from that day forward.

Axl Rose is in the early stage of a new Guns 'N' Roses record, according to touring guitarist DJ Ashba, who promises it won't take as long as Chinese Democracy to release new music. "Axl has a lot of good shit up his sleeves," says Ashba. [Rock It Out! Blog]
