Bumblefoot << another GnR album.. >> songs need to be recorded, tweaked, re-worked, re-recorded, mixed, re-mixed, mastered, re-mastered, art, new art,
Ummm... is this standard procedure or does this seem like a frustrated Ron taking a subtle shot at the Gn'R process. We all know it's a process but to spell it out like that makes it seem like he's saying it's a longer process with Gn'R than need be. Almost like he's mocking the process.
Re: DJ on new album, US tour in February
I think so. I think he's taking a "professional" and/or "classy" shot at how he disapproves of Axl's method.
I do appreciate Ron feeling the need and responsibility, because he's the only GN'R member that ever would, to make sure fans don't get their hopes up and misconstrue DJ's statement. I think now people who predicted DJ's statement was made out of ignorance of GNR's way have been vindicated. Ron is basically saying just that. DJ doesn't have a clue, and the GN'R-specific process is never that simple. Ron's also being honest about letting everyone know that none of them have even gotten in a room with the intention of writing as a band, which I think vindicates Bono even more in his statement that GN'R IS Axl, regardless. Nothing moves in that "band" without his OK.
If we just hear tweaked versions of the CD-era songs, that's fine. Hopefully they've got a vault that can keep us satisfied for years, and hopefully they have the intention for it to be heard.
It's a shame tho. Tommy with the help of Richard & Dizzy can hammer out greatness relatively quick. DJ, Ron & Frank have been biting at the bits to do an album, THEIR album... yet Axl remains with his thumbs parked 10 yards up his ass.
Re: DJ on new album, US tour in February
I think those "old CHINDEM songs" are the priority, not making a whole new batch. The way Axl talked back in the chats it's basically ready (or at least, basically done). I'd guess the album is just going to be tweaked and added with a few (or just couple) new songs of the new line up. Maybe Ron is just learning how it rolls in GNR... now? I seriously doubt Axl will start from scratch.
And of course GNR is Axl. I don't think anyone would argue that.

It does seem like he is taking a subtle shot. But for all we know, everyone in GNR (incl. Axl) are so used to "the process" by now and at ease with it, that comments like this are prolly flying around amongst them on a daily, weekly, monthly, annual basis. All in good spirit! Like Fortus making fun of DJ saying he had to go and "help DJ paint his fingernails"... They've all been very close for many many years by now, so the humor among them is most likely very loose at this point.
And I never took DJ's comments about a new album to mean a new album written from scratch by the current lineup. We'll prolly see another album or two of ChiDem material before a new album from the current lineup. And personally, I wouldn't have it any other way!
I wanna hear that mean Stevie Ray Vaughan solo by Robin!!!!!
Re: DJ on new album, US tour in February
I'd rather have Robin on the album than DJ, I hope some of his work at least is saved.
But all the same I'm still curious to hear what DJ brings to the table in the studio, I'm sure it will be good. I guess we wont know what we're missing if he does rerecord parts we've never even heard.
I think if anyone is absent from the next album it will be Buckethead
Whatever happens, whats the hold up this time? Wouldnt it have been a smart move to have had it ready to go on sale for this Christmas, after touring most of the world and gearing up for a new year tour of the US?
Re: DJ on new album, US tour in February
Glad Ron put an end to this nonsense.....no new album coming as expected. Just another "new" member spouting off shit he has no clue about. DJ, you need to have a sit down with Tommy and Dizzy. They have been there and done that. It's a no win situation so shut the fuck up like they eventually did.

I don't see this as a shot at Axl at all. He's just setting the record straight as I'm sure he's been flooded with questions and comments about a new album. Plus he's been tweeting about writing songs for a solo album, so it's possible people could have thought he was talking about new GNR songs.
I actually view this as a defense of Axl and the process. This isn't the first time he's brought this up. In other interviews he's mentioned the differences in doing things solo vs. with GNR. And he made the same comments about it being a much longer process when dealing on such a large scale. Again, defending Axl with all he has to deal with in a business sense.
I think the part about tweaking, re-tweaking, etc. is just hitting the point that it's a long and difficult process with a lot of involvement and hurdles to clear that we have no clue about in words we fans can understand.
Re: DJ on new album, US tour in February
There are songs that are already recorded. Those are not the songs the current band are interested in. Those songs will likely be released in the interim of putting together an album with the new band. This is all my opinion, but from the things i've read its the idea I get. Axl will release that next wave of CD. He has already described some of the music. Even if it doesn't come out in an album i'd except to be heard in some way, itunes, etc.
