Apparently we are going to have to agree to disagree on this. I just can't believe that a great song, performed and written by Tommy Stinson, 12 years in the band, three world tours, one original studio album, and the thing would be cut 13 on an album, and we'd start some "it's not GN'R" debate about it.
And, if you ask Duff about it, he would say that Tommy is just as much the bass player of GNR than he is. Some might then say that Duff is just saying that to be polite, but thats bullshit. Duff ain't stupid.
Don't push this original band member shit further than the fucking men themselves and their opinions. They don't really seem to give a shit and shows up to even do songs with the guys, so this discussion is lame.
It's bordering on some kind of religion with some, and it's again, lame. Don't take it for more than what it is and give Tommy respect. He's been loyal for 12 fucking years. In my book, Tommy is king.

a little sense of normality ( or reality for that matter) is seriously needed in the gnr community, especially htgth. i used to think this board was the last bastion of sanity left, but now there are people claiming slash and duff were replacements...
It's a question of technicality, and you can't deny he has a point.
He's using his brain. Others uses their hearts. Both are equally true.
And Axlin is no htgth guy. He knows his shit. Sometimes I agree with him and sometimes I don't, but the guy is reflective and good at it.

technically no one replaced slash and duff... the people we`re talking about are contractual players, i.e. hired guns to cite an overstressed pun, not actual band members.
as far as i know axl left the partnership and kept the name, so however you turn it, no one replaced slash or duff, if that`s even possible. axl`s only chance was and is to start something fresh. i don`t want to start the same old discussion again, but keeping the name definitely didn`t help the cause. i hope ashba is right about the release of a new album...

Legally, Ole, Tracy et al were never members of Gnr......only the AFD 5 ever had a recording agreement and songs published under the name Guns N' Roses...
Since 1992, the parties have executed various amendments to the Recording Agreement, including most notably, two amendments dated as of May 1, 1998. One of these amendments confirmed Slash's and Duff's departure from the band and their status as Leaving Members under the 1992 Recording Agreement, thereby relieving them of charges against their royalty accounts for the enormous recording costs and other expenses being incurred by Axl Rose (the only Remaining Member of Guns N' Roses) in connection with the recording of the new Guns N' Roses studio album. Slash and Duff, like Stradlin and Adler before them, retained a royalty interest in masters created under the Recording Agreement prior to their departure from the band. In the other May 1, 1998 amendment, Axl Rose agreed, among other things, to deliver that new studio LP (which was even then long overdue under the Recording Agreement) no later than March 1, 1999 and received a substantial advance from Geffen in return. Hence, although other individuals have joined Axl Rose in performing under the name Guns N' Roses since 1998, Rose is the only principal in the band.
