Re: SEBASTIAN BACH: The Name SKID ROW 'Is Now Devoid Of All Meaning In Eve
The Skid Row name has been devoid of all meaning since 1992 when they released B Side Ourselves.
A short record of covers from influences with a killer rendition of lil wing devoids all meaning to a band name?
Does your opinion hold for GnR and TSI?

The release of that EP destroyed ALL their momentum and the band was never the same after that.
See Subhuman Race for prime example number one and all the shit afterward for further examples.
TSI wasn't the same thing. The litmus test for cover albums isn't B Side Ourselves.

Nice reply! I was curious why u held that opinion. It read to me like cover albums kill bands.

Absolutely monk. Ironic isn't it?
Yeah it's really wierd how Baz and Axl are sort of in opposite situations in terms of owning the branding to their bands.
I'll confess i'm one of your Angel Down geeks though...i throughly enjoyed that album and also seeing the last few Baz solo tours. I'm actually really looking forward to him putting out another record!
Re: SEBASTIAN BACH: The Name SKID ROW 'Is Now Devoid Of All Meaning In Eve
Angel Down is average for me. Not a terrible output, not a great one either. I was a bit let down by it. I heard some of his new songs live in 2006 at the GN'R shows and they seemed tight and had universal appeal. I was thinking at the time, "wow, a real Skid Row album is in the works here", but when the album dropped a year later, other than those live tracks, it was just very average stuff. In Baz's defense tho, his WORST songs shit all over new-Skid Row's best stuff.
I kept reading after he said he's no longer living in 1991. His solo effort plays more Skid Row than Skid Row.
Baz seems to forget all the VH1 specials he's done. Selling yourself out to soccer moms on VH1 is fine but it's not cool to pose in Playgirl.
Fantastic point. How soon Baz forgets. The dude himself lost all credibility when he did "Gone Country 2", and cut a country song with John Rich producing.
That's not whoring out, but Playgirl is.

That EP did not kill their momentum. Their momentum, regardless of Slave To The Grind, suffered from their image as a glam band. Skid never got that universal praise that was heaped on Metallica, and I truely believe their momentum was lost, because they dropped Slave just before grunge killed their band, and tons of others from that era. They were just another victim. They could've released their own personal Zeppelin II, and it would've suffered the same fate.
GN'R & Metallica were the only ones to make it out of that 1991/92 bloodbath.

From Angel down i really dig, Angel Down, Back in the Saddle, Love is a Bitchslap, Stuck Inside, American Metalhead, and By Your Side. There's other tracks I enjoy but those ones are sort of my favourites. Maybe it's connected to what type of fan i am - but most of the SR records had 3 or 4 great songs as well, so to me the enjoyment level is about the same.
I think Baz just doesn't like the fact that this guy is using the SR name to do publicity stuff not so much that he's doing publicity stuff.

Skid Row got better and better with every release right up to Subhuman Race, which I still think is a great album. Angel Down sounds much closer to where Skid Row were heading musically on Slave/Subhuman than anything the actual Skid Row went on to release after that without Baz.
And I'm looking forward to another Baz solo album too.
Re: SEBASTIAN BACH: The Name SKID ROW 'Is Now Devoid Of All Meaning In Eve
I thought Love Is A Bitchslap, By Your Side and Back In The Saddle were all worthy tracks. But none on that Skid/Slave-level. Even I think Skid fans overrated Subhuman Race, even though I think it's a solid album, and a fuckin' masterpiece compared to Thickskin & RPM.
But even still, I don't think Angel Down produced any real Skid Row back catalog challenging titles, especially their debut & Slave. I didn't hear any Youth Gone Wild's, Slave To The Grind's, Monkey Business's, or Wasted Time's.
The only two I could say were worthy of consideration, before rejection, was the Back In The Saddle cover which did sound vintage-Skid, and was helped by Axl. And By Your Side sounded like the child that came from the marriage of I Remember You and 18 & Life.

And Baz sounds stupid dissing Youth Gone Wild too, considering he still plays that song live these days.
The guy is ridiculous. Last time I saw him, a few years ago, he played a very Slave and SR1 heavy set. I mean 90 percent of the songs was from that era. And he's talking about not living in th past... the guy was fuckin' pointing to the words Youth Gone Wild, tattooed to his arm, during that song.
The show was good though, I really enjoyed the time travel.
