I think John Glover was the one who said, everytime someone would try to get serious on the film, Joel would be there yelling through a megaphone "remember this is a CARTOON". It's hard to get dramatic with that kind of direction.
It is a cartoon! How serious do you want to get?
I enjoy both Burton and Nolans efforts. There's a significant difference in style, but all in all I wouldn't say Nolan's are really darker or more serious. I probably prefer Nolan though since he's more apt with mainstream material. But I must say I find myself missing the stunning visuals of Burton sometimes. Nolan can get a little bland.
Even Schumacher's aren't terrible (meaning watchable and better than utter junk like Daredevil, Catwoman, GI Joe etc.), especially the first one.
Whatever happens in 3 I just hope they cut down on the moral procastrination. You're making a PG13 for christ sake, we all know you're not really taking this seriously so stop pretending.

The script said he was on the ground with a broken neck. I think that means he's dead as a doornail. Just my take.
You make a good point. My problem is why did that coin come up on the clean-side. Where they just showing that he would have spared the kid, or was it some comment on batman freefalling them off the building?

Absolutely agree 100%. I'm not a massive fan of Schumacher's films, but they have their place in the Batman legacy. Forever appeals to 50's era when they started lightening up the comics and Robin came into the fold, and B&R appeals obviously to the Batmania of the 60's and the campy aspect. All just as worthy imo. Depends on how you like it. As a little kid, I used to love 60's Batman, then I grew up. Still has an appeal for camp.
As for Nolan, honestly I think his policies towards the Batman universe and what characters he will or will not use has really handcuffed and hurt the series in some ways. YES, he's coming off the most popular Batman ever made. YES, "The Dark Knight Rises" will be his final film in a Trilogy set. YES, the series can take a new turn after that, Batman will never truely die.
But it just leaves something to be desired. I know the Animated Series was, well... an Animated Series, but it somehow pulled off dark with camp. Why can't Nolan? I liked it for two films, but I would like him to choose a campier character for the next one, just to shake it up a bit. I really want something with his perspective, but also fresh. If it's just Batman Begins 3, straight-forward modern actioner in a Batsuit, it might not be as highly reviewed. I think #3 might be going to that well too much for Nolan.
I miss Burton in alot of ways. His Batman was really the universe I think of when I think - "Batman". That's the Gotham I imagine.

^ I know what you mean...I feel somewhere in the middle. The style of burton's - like that live action but slightly fucked up as a city place really captured the vibe of the comics to me. It's sort of the way a child views a city.
But I think the writing is so much better in the new ones. Dark Knight really captured the essance of all the charaters I thought. Like the batman/joker relationship was way better done than in burtons ones.
I miss the keaton car though.

i agree, the coin toss was what made me think he lived as well....and he had such a bit part to play, i read that it wasw leading to the next sequel....but then again what do i know...i'm jsut a casual fan

Agreed. fuck the campy shit. Batman Begins and Dark Knight were good movies and to swicth it up now would be fucked. Let Nolan finish this trilogy that has a set and then let someone else start a new series we can all roll our eyes and and compalin about how campy it is. I fucking hate campy sit. It´s what ruined Transformers, it´s what ruins everything that has potential to be epic. The new Star wars triology for example. There´s enough campy garbage in this world no need to ruin this era of Batman movies with it.

Yeah right. If anybody had balls in the franchise it was Schumacher. Doing a film like Batman & Robin takes massive grapefruits.
Nolan took the easy way out. He just did action/thrillers with Batman characters. Oooh wow, how inventive of him. Michael Mann or the Scott brothers could've did the exact same thing. What a genious Chris Nolan is. 
Nolan saved himself because his scripts are smart, and excellently written. The cast is superb too. With that said, TDK is the best Batman film ever made imo.
