It was actually Extreme that ruled that day:

You're just a VHIII nutswinger. 16

Personally I thought the performances of the night was Seal performing "Who Wants To Live Forever" and Brian May doing "Too Much Love Will Kill You".

Me and my gf at the time we're both huge GNR and chose to not go out and get fucked up that night and instead watch this gig on tv... but I`d already agreed to babysit for my fkin brother, so we watched as much as possible waiting for GNR to explode out onto the stage and it seemed like forever and then it was time to head off to my brothers which was about 15-20mins away, was torture all the way thinking Noooooo they're on now!.. Got there and thank fuck (thank Axl maybe) they were not on yet, so we got to see it as planned smile
Fuck, I was a nutswinger back then...

Farm Aid is still my favorite.

Yeah there's just something magical about that night, and not just the fact Axl looked cooler there than he ever did before or after.

The band that night deserved more than a 2 song performance. I know it wasn't possible as it was Farm Aid, but them doing a set in a club an hour after that including some UYI material would have been fucking amazing.

Just watched that Civil war @ farmaid u posted. Axl killed it on the rasp parts. Slash nailed the solos. Couldnt get into the drums tho

I'd adler's book he says that he wasn't told what songs they'd be playing and in fact had never heard the song "Down on the Farm" at all.

I don't doubt he was also using, but he basicly says the band was so pissy with him by then for his drug use, that he was on the outer,  and kept way out of the loop by Slash and Duff that night.

It's real sad how drugs fucked up stevens life. His love for drumming is pure and when you see him at it it's great. I hope he cleans up and gets to play with slash again one day.
